Piggy the BraveIllustrated by Stefanie Herbst

Once, in the green Whiskforest under the longbranched birch

hustled and bustled Rooster Redwattle and Cat Meow. They had a

little carriage and on the carriage there was an axe a

hammer, a drill and twelve great nails. They had decided to build

a house under the birch just below the nest of Owl Oakhead.

They cut down the trees with the axe and drew

them with the carriage under the longbranched

birch. And with the drill they made windows

and with the hammer they nailed all twelve

great nails to the hallway to serve as a coat-rack.

Then they collected moss to cover up tiny holes

in the walls so that it would be warm inside

and finaly they made a mighty fine roof.

And then they began to eat.

Toddling and waddling along the forest trail arrives tiny and thin Piggy

the Brave. “Howdy-Hey”, it says. “I’m truly starving. I’m Piggy the Brave

and I fear nothing.” It was so thin that you could see its ribs and its

snout was thin as your pinkyfinger.

Rooster Redwattle and Cat Meow served to it eight sandwitches and a

bucket of potatoes.

“Oink Oink” said Piggy the Brave “Now I feel sleepy. But if Wolf Whitetheeth and

Bear Honeypaw happen to come across the night then wake me up.” And then it

washed its dirty snout and dirty hooves, put on its nightgown and went to sleep

on the oven.

Great clock struck twelve and the moon

watched in from the window. Then the Owl

Oakhead hollered: “U-huu”. Rooster Redwattle

opened its other eye and the Cat Meow both.

“U-huu” hollered Owl Oakhead the second

time. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

Knock, knock, knock. There were Wolf White-

teeth and Bear Honeypaw.

What to do now? Rooster Redwattle started to

cry and whine: “Now they have come to eat us,

we shall surely perish!” Cat Meow started to

cry and whine: “This is the end of us!”

But then they remembered the little Piggy

the Brave and woke it up, Piggy the Brave

yawned and rubbed its eyes and said:

“It’s not as bad as it seems.” The little

Piggy the Brave said quietly:”I am Piggy

the Brave and I fear nothing, but I’am

hungry again.

“And Rooster Redwattle and

Cat Meow brought eight more

sandwiches and eight eggs

and one platter of porridge.

And it ate it all.

But outside Wolf Whiteteeth and Bear Honeypaw struck the door: “Knock

knock, let us in, we are coming to eat you Rooster Redwattle and Cat

Meow. So come out, come out where ever you are, so we can eat you!”

“Hell no, we won’t go!” said Rooster Redwattle. “We dare not to venture

there!” said Cat Meow.

What to do now? Rooster Redwattle started to cry and whine: “Now they

have come to eat us, we shall surely perish!” Cat Meow started to cry and

whine: “This is the end of us!” But then they remembered the little Piggy

the Brave and woke it up, Piggy the Brave and rubbed its eyes and said:

“It’s not as bad as it seems.” The little Piggy the Brave said quietly:”I am

Piggy the Brave and I fear nothing, but I’am hungry again.

But now Piggy the Brave had eaten itself full. Now

it was a mighty fat pig. It was so fat that its tum-

my was like a barrel and its snout was like a huge

mall. When it walked its legs went:

“Boom, boom, boom!”

It went to the door, grabbed the lock, opened the

door and said: “OINK!”

When it said: “OINK!” It said it so loudly that Wolf

Whiteteeth and Bear Honeypaw got frightened,

turned their backs and ran away. And they ran and

ran and they ran to the other side of the world.

And there they stayed. But Rooster Redwattle

and Cat Meow and Piggy the Brave laughed so

much that the Owl Oakhead said to its brother:

“Is that sane!”

And then Piggy the Brave ate eight sandwiches

and one bucket of potatoes.
