Supplies needed:two sheets of blank paperpencil (with eraser)Highlighters or colored pencils (blue, red, green, yellow)

ObjectivesUpon completion of this lesson, you should be able to:identify great vessels & valves associated with right & left sides of the heartdifferentiate between systemic & pulmonary circulationtrace the pathway of blood through the heart
![Page 7: Pig Heart Dissection Workshop](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081513/56815e02550346895dcc4a55/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
The heart is a double pump
rightheartpump
leftheartpump
![Page 8: Pig Heart Dissection Workshop](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081513/56815e02550346895dcc4a55/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
The right heart pumps deoxygenated blood.
The left heart pumps oxygenated blood (94%-100%).
(Called deoxygenated although it has approximately 68% - 75% oxygen.)
![Page 9: Pig Heart Dissection Workshop](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081513/56815e02550346895dcc4a55/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Deoxygenated blood:called “venous” blood – leaves body tissuesreturns to right heart, which pumps it to lungs where it’s “re-oxygenated”
leaves lungs and returns to left heart
Movement of blood from heart to lungs & back to heart is referred to as pulmonary circulation or the pulmonary circuit
![Page 10: Pig Heart Dissection Workshop](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081513/56815e02550346895dcc4a55/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

Throughout this exercise, there will be yellow highlighting to show drawing sequence.

The pulmonary artery is the only artery in the body to carry deoxygenated
blood.Remember:Arteries carry blood Away from the
heart.

Next, we move to the left heart.

Left heart blood:called “arterial” blood- leaves lungs as highly oxygenated blood (94% - 100%)returns to left heartpumped to organ systems (including the heart--coronary arteries)
referred to as systemic circulation or the systemic circuit
