Within this conference students utilized their diplomatic skills when discussing the freedom and safety of the press as well as forced displacement due to climate change. Pierce students worked with peers from across the state in this conference. The following students truly represented both their assigned countries and Pierce Middle School honorably: Colin Glazer, Patrick Kelly, Isabella Lee, Will Malec, and Kyle Tam. EGG DROP EXPERIMENT The Advanced FUSE class is at it again! They loved the Egg Drop so much in Term 2 that they wanted to do it again this term and asked Ms. Magill to make it HARDER, so Egg Drop...Take 2 was harder. Students had an imaginary $100 to spend on their materials, taken from a list provided. Once they had the materials, if they got lost or broken, they could only buy more if they still had enough money. Over 3 weeks, they researched, designed, built, tested, and redesigned/ rebuilt to come up with their best design. On Thursday 5/13 they dropped their devices with the raw egg in it from the balcony in the main foyer, and Ms. Magill is happy to report that of the 12 devices that were dropped, only 3 eggs broke! Next up students will be exploring how to use just toothpicks (11.5 grams to be exact) to keep an egg safe from something being dropped on it. Stay tuned! MCAS DATES May 26…ELA Testing All Grades May 27…Math Testing All Grades June 7…Science/Tech Eng, Grade 8 (Ex-CELL-ent 6th Grade Projects) The cell projects pictured below were nominated by their class as the "highest quality" projects. Amazing Mr. Manning really pushed his students' creativity in the beginning of the 4th quarter. Students were asked to hyper focus on part of an object that they would like to draw. Artists were not asked to draw the whole object but only part of the object, a part they found interesting. Students then created large somewhat abstract value scale drawings of that object. Some projects are more identifiable than others; can you guess at what they are? Students learned about shading and using blending tools in their work. 7th and 8th graders hit this one out of the park and were truly amazed when they got to look at others' work. Students were surprised how professional their work looked when it was installed on the wall and really enjoyed sharing information from each design.
