PIB Family Night is THIS Wednesday, March

have 12 STEM Activity Stations. See page

The Robinson Foundation is having their
annual BINGO night on Friday, April 21 from
6:00-8:00. Look for more information from
PTSO in the next couple of weeks. The Pre-
IB team decided to fill two baskets to be
auctioned off that night. Our baskets will
be:
“Treat Yourself” a gift card basket.
“Cozy Up to A Good Book” a basket with
reading supplies
We are looking for donations to fill our
basket (remember you get bonus fuel
points if you purchase gift cards at Dillons).
Donated items for the basket need to be
brought to Ms. Van Horn’s classroom (217)
by Friday, April 14. Thank you for all of your
support! We hope you’ll all come out and
join the fun.
The Mathcounts team (Vivian Lu, Alex
Mandanis, Mehala Muthukumar, and Aryan
Waghmode) participated in
state this past weekend. Vivian
placed tenth in the individual
competition. Vivian is the first
student from Robinson to place
in the individual competition at
state. Congratulations to
Vivian!
We have noticed that some of the students
are low on school supplies (paper, pencils,
pens). Please ask your student if they need
any supplies.
Spring Break is also a good time to get
caught up on community service. United

Sinsel—Math Math 6+ students will take their test over ratios, proportion, and percent on Tuesday. We’ll complete a
fun mini-project the final two days before Spring Break!
This week we will wrap up ratios with a test on Pi
Day. On Wednesday and Thursday, the plan is to
perform a slime experiment in math. Our focus
will be to explain the results of various ratios of
soap to glue. I may be asking for donations of
cash or supplies soon, so heads-up. :-)
This week we will study the Water Cycle. This set
of lessons are the first part of the weather unit
which will follow Spring Break. Thank you for all
your donations for the Maze Contest. Your chil-
dren really enjoyed the building, testing and com-
petition in the unit.
Wordly Wise Lesson 8 quiz will be on Thursday, March 9th. Stu-
dents are still reading Conrad Richter’s historical novel The Light in
the Forest. The discussion focus this week and next will be on
Conrad’s themes of contempt and man’s inhumanity to man. This
week, students also honed listening, speaking, and critical analysis
skills after hearing a National Public Radio discussion on the dehu-
manization of enemies and dehumanization’s relationship to geno-
cide, a theme that aligns with our novel. Enjoy spring break and
please take time to read for pleasure daily.
Students are nearly finished with our novel Las
Telarañas de Carlota. Our vocabulary this week
and next focuses on words related to the state
fair, agricultural, and carnival attractions.
This week students played a game in which they
were part of a moving school bus. This got them
up and moving and helped check their under-
standing of the first two chapters of their novel.
Students proved that they were definitely ready to
read a short book written entirely in Spanish!
Next week they will read through chapter five.
Next week we will be completing chapter 11. The
concepts we will be covering will be the end of
the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Ro-
man Empire. We will be introduced to Julius Cae-
sar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Augustus. There
will be a quiz over sections 11-3 and 11-4 before
Spring Break.
The 6th grade students are excelling with Pobre
Ana as they recognize new vocabulary and use a
variety of strategies to comprehend complex text.
Next week we will continue to practice these skills
as we read and discuss Capítulos 4 y 5.
Next week we will be finishing our novel and complet-
ing a writing assignment over it. On Tuesday, we will
be having our state assessment review test. The test
will focus on the vocabulary required for doing well on
our state assessment. The information is all in their
Interactive Notebooks which should be taken home to
review for the test.
