PIANO SONATA IN G MAJOR, OP. 31, NO. 1
(III)Ludwig van Beethoven
Analyzed as a Sonata Rondo
Section A
Immediately there is a hint at the dominant key with the use of C# and goes back and forth with it frequently through out this section.
Section A
Here there is an IAC which then leads into the Melody is placed in the left hand and the use of triplet runs is introduced.
Section A
Following this PAC we have Beethoven playing around a bit more with the melody by twisting it and adding more harmonic content.
Section A
After this IAC we proceed through the transitional section which ends on a V/V effectively making it a half cadence in the dominant key.
Section B
Here we find a new melody in D major with these running triplets.
Section B
The melody in the right hand starts this triplet octave trill that Beethoven cleverly leads into the return of the A section.
Section A 2nd
The A melody returns shortened and is joined by the triplets in the left hand. The section ends on and IAC.
Development Section
Here we have Beethoven Modulating the melody several times until we come back to the triplet octave trills that lead into A.
Section A 3rd
This time the melody is accompanied by the triplets again and several times throughout this we find elements of the B section utilized in it such as the triplet runs and the triplet octave trills.
Section B 2nd
This time around the B section is in the tonic Key and seems to be lengthened a little bit. It ends on a PAC in G.
Section A Finale
Here we have the cadential part of the melody leading into back into the melody which Beethoven has it played adagio then allegreto then adagio to finally presto which makes the melody fly to the ending cadential section which decrescendos to pianissimo.
