    JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

    PRINCETON-IN-ASIA

    Princeton in Asia (PiA) is a non-profit organization located at Princeton University with 118 years of historyproviding immersive experiences in Asia to recent college graduates. The mission of PiA, consistent since itsfounding, is to promote goodwill and understanding and facilitate in every way the free interchange of the best

    ideals of the civilizations of East and West. PiA fosters mutual appreciation and cultural understanding byconnecting service-minded graduates and partner organizations in Asia through immersive work experiences thattransform perspectives, cultivate long-lasting relationships and benefit local and global communities. PiAcurrently facilitates 145 year-long fellowship and summer internship opportunities in 19 Asian countries,contributing to the issues of access to education, access to information, public health, environmentalsustainability, economic development and social justice. PiA is the oldest and largest program of its kind, drawingapplicants from over 150 colleges and universities and boasting a vibrant community of 3500 committed alumnifrom across the world.

    PiA is currently administered by a staff of six professionals, with its headquarters on campus at PrincetonUniversity in Princeton, NJ and a field office in Singapore. PiA is an independent, not-for-profit 501 (c)(3)organization with a notably engaged Board of Trustees, $5 million endowment to support PiAs programs and an

    annual operating budget of approximately $900,000.

    Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director (Director) will spearhead developmentefforts as PiA prepares for growth. A new position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity tobuild the development function and will be responsible for all aspects of the development program, with the keyobjective of building the infrastructure needed for a robust, enhanced individual giving program. The Directorwill work closely with the Board Development Committee to support the Committees active cultivation,solicitation and stewardship of donors. The Director will also work closely with the Director of Alumni Relationsand will be a key member of PiAs vibrant, global team. The post holder will be expected to travel domestically,and potentially internationally.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Work with Executive Director and Board Development Committee to establish PiAs short- andlong-term development goals, strategies and tasks to meet institutional strategic goals and priorities

    Identify and research, and work with Executive Director and Development Committee to cultivate,solicit and steward individual annual, major and planned giving prospects and donors

    Design and implement fundraising strategies and appropriate follow-up action, including solicitationmaterials, correspondence and reports as necessary to promote donor participation, recognition,retention and renewal

    Build volunteer infrastructure and leverage Alumni Association to engage PiA community infundraising efforts

    Fine-tune, enhance and manage the implementation of PiAs database of Alumni and Friends tocontribute to development efforts and communications

    Oversee data entry and gift processing and ensure timely administration of donor acknowledgments Develop and track proposals and prepare reports for all foundation fundraising, targeted gifts and

    special restricted funds

    Oversee organization of development events in collaboration with Director of Alumni Relations

    Partner with Communications Director to drive communications that support PiAs developmentgoals, targets donors and articulates PiAs mission, vision, programs and accomplishments

    Work with Communications Director in the production of all collateral materials, including website,annual report, periodic newsletters, letters to constituents and donor materials

    Professional Experience/Qualifications

    An undergraduate degree is required, along with a minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on developmentand/or communications experience

    Superior communication skills, with the ability to present a strong case for giving to PiA througheloquent, effective and appropriate correspondence quickly and under pressure

    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be an effective ambassador for PiA and interactcredibly with and inspire personal commitment among diverse groups of stakeholders, including highnet worth individuals, executives and Board members

    Strong prospect research and organizational skills; keen attention to detail

    Excellent computer analytical and database skills; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie andFinalCut a plus

    Proven ability to engage, motivate and manage volunteers

    Demonstrated interest and experience in Asia, preferably including work and travel in Asia (ideally onPiA or a similar program) a plus
