• A myWellCheck visit is a voluntary 60-minute health screening and coaching session to go over a health risk assessment (HRA) to measure your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Surgical Attire & OR Booking

Surgical Attire Policy

Scrubs - Freshly laundered daily, changed when soiled. Tops to be tucked in at the waist when entering the restricted and semi restricted area only. Scrubs cannot to be worn into the building and must be removed before exiting the building. Lanyards are not to be worn.

Hats - Must cover all hair on the head, including sideburns. Ears do not need to be covered unless there are earrings. Hats are to remain on when in OR scrubs, even in non-restricted areas, unless no further entry to OR is anticipated. If the hat is removed and reentry to OR is needed, scrubs must be changed. Replace head coverings when contaminated. TBD- the health system is evaluating a surgeon’s skull cap that is suitable, when worn appropriately.

Jackets - No longer necessary, but may be worn for comfort. When wearing one it must be snapped closed. No turtlenecks or long sleeve shirts. Lab Coats are ok to wear over scrubs if freshly laundered, outside of restricted and semi-restricted areas, i.e., only in unrestricted areas.

Mask and Beard Covers - A fresh mask should be donned for each new procedure as well as when opening sterile supplies. It should be changed when soiled, wet or taken down. Masks are not to hang around the neck and should be removed in the semi-restricted area. Beard covers must be worn when in restricted area. (Units need to supply beard covers at the scrub sinks). The beard cover can stay on or be removed in the semi-restricted area.

Shoes - Closed toes and backs, clean nonskid and impervious. However, shoes that are not impervious need shoe covers. If contaminated must be cleaned or replaced.

Jumpsuits, Masks, Shoe Covers must be removed when leaving semi restricted areas.

All Healthcare workers are responsible to adhere to this policy and there will be random monitoring.

Definitions:

Non-Restricted Areas - Administrative offices, lounges, locker rooms, anesthesia office(s), and other offices outside the operating room or designated procedure area, such as Same Day Surgery Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), the receiving area, hallway and patient care units.

Semi-Restricted Areas - Area(S) beyond the operating/procedure area entrance doors in which there is direct access to the operating room or procedure area (interventional radiology, interventional cardiology). Procedure rooms should have a semi-restricted area. If there is not a semi-restricted areas, the department should outline management and flow from the non-restricted to restricted area.

Restricted Areas - The operating room/procedural area when cases are in progress or sterile supplies are open.

Description: The Office of Patient & Customer Experience has collaborated with the American Academy for Communication in Healthcare (AACH) and the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine to develop a unique and customized physician communication skills course. This 1 day course will focus on effective communication, relationship building, collaboration, partnership and leading with empathy. It will build upon the elements of Culture of C.A.R.E. and be geared specifically for physicians.
