Geography• Geography-science that deals with the distribution,

and interaction of the physical, biological, and cultural features on earth's surface.

Key Vocabulary• Axis• Rotation• Revolution• Hemisphere • Eclipse

Page 4: Physical Geography

Axis

• Axis- is an imaginary line that runs from the north pole to the south pole.

Rotation

• Rotation- is the motion of the earth as it spins on its axis this causes day and night.

Eclipse

• A shape that looks like a slightly squashed circle.

Hemisphere

• The Hemisphere is the globe cut in half.

Revolution

• Revolution- the earths movement around the sun in an orbital pattern.

Earth’s System• Atmosphere- the air around us.• Hydrosphere-the water in our lakes and oceans.• Lithosphere-the rock, sand and other solid particles.• Biosphere-any life matter from single celled organisms to

complex multi-cellular organisms.

Biosphere

• Photosynthesis is a great example of how carbon dioxide, water and light energy are combined to create part of the biosphere.

Lithosphere

The lithosphere can consist of the erosion cycle where water whether it’s rain, lake ocean or river erodes the rock or soil surrounding it. It can also be found in out tectonic plates that

make up out world as seen in this picture.

Atmosphere

• The carbon cycle is an atmospheric cycle that effects all earths systems. Carbon dioxide is a green house gas that traps heat energy within the atmosphere.

Hydrosphere

The Hydrogen Cycle consist of water that is recycled within every system. This is found in all systems. It erodes the land. Found in all life forms. Under certain conditions is found in the atmosphere before it becomes precipitation.
