Why we are starting the program A big portion of Wando JROTC is dedicated to

physical fitness, however we have a good number of cadets unable to pass the standard physical fitness test. Having given cadets the exception of physical education in order to take the course, we find that JROTC is responsible for the health and physical fitness of our cadets.

JROTC tries its best to promote physical Fitness and eating healthy, but now we can enforce it to those who need it the most.

It is JROTC’s responsibility to teach the future leaders and outstanding citizens of tomorrow, there fore all the more reason to educate them in being fit and healthy

The rules and regulations of the program

This program will be MANDITORY for all cadets unable to pass the standard Physical training test. Any cadets unable to pass the P.T. test regularly will be put on probation.

The program will require all participating cadets meeting two times a week after school to do a 30-45 min “work out” run by an instructor. All work out sessions will be biased on P.T. test activities to help improve on the physical fitness test.

Also, when participating in this program, it will be required to keep a log of what you eat(breakfast, lunch, dinner, extra snacks) on the sheets provided for each cadet. This will further teach the cadets to learn to live healthy in every way.

Cadets unable to participate during given times

Cadets who are unable to Pass the P.T. test and are unable to attend the regular meetings still must participate in the program, but will be required to do extra physical fitness training under supervision of an instructor once a week during class time when the rest of the flight is practicing drill.

Medical notes from doctors will be looked at and determined by instructors

Why a food log must be kept A much more efficient and quick way to

improve your Physical Fitness and health is to watch what you eat.

In promoting health we would like to teach our cadets that watching what you eat is an important part of physical fitness.

Teaching cadets the right eating habits now will help them stick to eating well as they get older

Writing down what you eat, healthy or not, is a good way for kids to see and manage there food consumption.

Older cadets

This program should not be limited to only the cadets who cannot pass. Other cadets with jobs and on teams should be recommended to join the program to:◦ keep themselves in shape

◦ Learn better training and eating habits

◦ To motivate all other cadets through participation

◦ Lead by example

◦ If interested, beginners training for Wando JROTC’s Rader team

SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST TWO FLIGHT COMMANDERS AT EVERY MEETING FOR SUPPORT TO UNDERCLASSMEN CADETS, SENIOR STAFF ALSO RECOMMENDED WHEN CONVIENIENT.

BENNIFITS

Will create a healthier and over all more efficient JROTC wing.

Will motivate ALL cadets to do best during P.T. tests◦ (certain cadets who don’t put forth effort may

be more motivated to try)

◦ May help cadets bring P.T. cloths more consistantly

May help Wando reach 100% P.T. rate at C.O.L.S.

Will help disciplinary issues

Unite the cadets and teach them the importants of being healthy

Motivation

Would always like upperclassmen to motivate the under classmen. Try and avoid sticking cadets from same grade. (less personal)

Motivational “yelling” or “coaching” while P.T.ing should be saved mainly for the time of the real P.T. test. To much of this at every meeting can cause decrease in motivation for fitness, and have the opposite effect we are working for.

Flight commanders are key! Only connecting upperclassmen to freshman.

Home exercises

Can be simple. ◦ Sit-ups

◦ Push-ups

◦ Wall touches

◦ Running the mile

◦ Crunches

◦ Squats

Can be anything as long as recorded on sheet

Advice for cadets is given on back of meal/ work out sheet as to ways to make mini work outs easier.
