Second Sunday of Advent Page 2 Sunday, December 10, 2017

SPECIAL NOTICE: Confession will be available on the Tuesdays of Advent (Dec. 12, 19) from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. These times are in addition to Satur-days from 3:30pm – 4:30pm, and the Parish Penance Service on Monday, December 18th at 7:00pm.

Thanks to the generosity of a parishioner, our parish is now blessed with a beautiful new Tabernacle for the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. This Tabernac-le is made of polished onyx and gilded metal; it was crafted by the company

called Granda in their workshop in Madrid, Spain. You can see other work by Granda in the new Holy Trinity Church in Ladera Ranch and in the Basilica of Mission San Juan Capistrano. The Tabernacle for Eucharistic reservation is a reminder of Christ’s presence that comes about in the sacrifice of the Mass. But it is also a reminder of the brothers and sisters we must cherish in charity, since it was in fulfillment of the sacramental minis-try received from Christ that the Church first began to reserve the Blessed Sacrament for the sake of the sick and suffering. On the outside door of the Tabernacle is a depiction of the Lamb of God (John 1:29 -36); the inside of door is the scene of the Crucifixion; and inside the Tabernacle is the phrase “Adoro te devote, latens Deitas” (Hidden God, devoutly I adore Thee) from the Eucharistic hymn by St. Thomas Aquinas. This Tabernacle is truly a piece of art and a worthy Tabernacle for the Lord. This might be an appropriate time to consider the old practice of “making a visit” to the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament on a regular basis. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is open each day, and for many of the hours of each day we have Exposition and Ado-ration of the Blessed Sacrament. However, the Eucharistic Lord is present at all times in the Tabernacle; hence we genuflect when entering and leaving, and pray in reverent silence in the presence of our Lord. Deepen your relationship with the Risen Lord through prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. O come, Let us adore Him: Christ the Lord!

We invite you to join us this Christmas in reaching out to those in need through the Giving Tree, sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul. Your gifts assist several organizations: M a r y ’ s S h e l t e r helps unwed teen mothers & their babies find hope, dignity & self-sufficiency. B e y o n d is run by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Orange. It helps homeless women in transition with temporary housing, training and support to find jobs. H o p e f o r K i d s supports host families for children from families in crisis who need transitional help. They also assist disadvantaged youth by raising funds for college scholarships. T h e S c h o o l S i s t e r s o f S t . F r a n c i s serve the needy in poor parishes in Southern Texas near the Mexican border in a number of capacities as they help the poor, the disadvantaged, and the abused. T h e h o m e l e s s o f S a n F e l i p e are the men and women in the Capistrano Beach, San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point areas who are homeless. Many are men who are day laborers who do not have the means to rent rooms. Once a year, through the Giving Tree, Welcome INN (Interfaith Needs Network) partners with St Timothy to provide these brothers and sisters the gifts of jeans, sweatshirts, and a bountiful meal that are provided in January on the Feast of the Three Kings. S t . T i m o t h y F o o d P a n t r y helps 70 to 90 families a week with food basic items such as diapers, toilet paper and soap. T h e S t . T i m o t h y C o n f e r e n c e o f S t . V i n c e n t d e P a u l assists local families in need with gift cards for gas, grocery stores, Target and Walmart. To participate, just visit the Giving Tree in the back of the church, take an ornament, and return the ornament with the designated gift to the box under the tree. You may also return the ornament and gift to the front office during office hours or through the mail drop when the office is closed. For questions or more information, kindly contact St. Vincent de Paul at 249-4092.

St. Vincent de Paul - St. Timothy Conference thanks all parishioners for your support! The most recent Thanksgiving Dinner Drive was another great success! The total amount raised was $15,116! Because of your support, we were able to provide complete Thanksgiving dinners to 150 needy families and will be able to give a $25 grocery gift card to each family that visits the Parish Pantry to help them buy food for their Christmas dinner. The remaining funds will be used to provide support for those who visit our Out-reach Office throughout the year. This past fiscal year, ending September 30, 2017, was another record breaking year for our Conference, both in terms of donations and also in the number of people whom we helped. In our Outreach Office, we met with approximately 300 clients and were able to help 190 of them. We assisted people with rent and utility bills, car repairs, medical bills, OCTA bus passes, and provided gift cards to grocery stores, gas stations, Wal Mart, Tar-get, Kohls, Del Taco and other fast food chains. At the end of 2016, we distributed 150 Thanksgiving dinners and $25 gift cards to the Parish Pantry patrons at Christmas. We also worked with “Our Father’s Table” on various projects for the homeless, including the co-ordination of $650 raised towards items for the “Christmas in August Lunch” organized by “Our Father’s Table” of San Juan Capistrano. Our conference was established in August 6, 2009 as a continuation of the parish outreach that was started by several dedicated parishioners many years before. As a separate tax exempt, non-profit unincorporated asso-ciation 501c-3, we are also recognized by the International Society of St. Vincent de Paul headquartered in France as well as by our local St. Vincent de Paul Council of Orange County. (www.svdpoc.org). We ask that anyone needing assistance call SVDP at 249-4092 and schedule an appointment. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00AM to 11:00AM with our last appt. at 10:30 AM. We can also meet on Thursday evening by appointment only. If you would like to become involved or have other questions, please contact our president, Dennis Jans, at [email protected].

Over a year ago several parishes, including our St. Timothy parish, united under the mission of Habi-tat for Humanity of Orange County to help fund the building of a home for a U.S. veteran. I am hap-py to report that ground breaking for this home occurred recently and the first date to begin volun-teering at the Tustin home site is scheduled for:

Saturday December 16, 2017 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

All interested volunteers need to establish a profile with Habitat for Humanity in order to participate. To sign up, please visit the volunteer portal at http://habitatoc.volunteerhub.com/SignIn.aspx. Reg-ister to create a user name and password. You will be prompted to enter the Catholic Coalition join code: CC17. Continue through registration process. Please be advised that all volunteers at the site are required to wear closed-toed, hard-soled shoes. I look forward to seeing you there. If you would like more information you can contact me, Ramiro Reveles (Ram) at (949) 228-1642 or through email at [email protected].
