    INTERMEDIATE II, PHRASAL VERBS.

    64 different phrasal verbs may look like a huge number, but dont

    despair: YOU KNOW MOST OF THEM ALREADY. Just

    concentrate on the ones you had not seen before, mark them, copytheir translation into Spanish and go over the list trying to think of

    the English translation several times. Then do the exercise below.

    AGREE WITH - estar de acuerdo

    BE ABOUT TO - estar a punto de.BE BACK regresar.

    BE OVER acabarse.

    BE UP - estar levantado.BLOW UP - estallar (una bomba).BLOW UP inflar.

    BREAK DOWN averiarse, estropearse.BRING UP- criar, educar.

    CALL BACK- volver a llamar.CARRY ON/KEEP ON - seguir. Continuar.CARRY OUT - llevar a cabo.CLEAR UP - poner en orden.

    COME ACROSS/BUMP INTO. Encontrar, dar con.

    COME BACK regresar.

    COME IN entrar.COME ON - Vamos!, Date prisa!

    CUT DOWN ON - consumir menos.CUT OFF - cortar, desconnectar.

    CUT UP - cortar en pedazos.DO UP - abrochar, atar.

    HAVE TODO WITH - tener algo que ver con, tener relacin con.

    DO WITHOUT - pasar sin, prescindir de.

    DRAW UP pararse referido a vehculos.GET BACK- volver, regresar.

    GET IN(TO) entrar (casa, edificio, lugar cerrado, pero tambin coche ytaxi).

    GET OUT OF - salir (sitio cerrado que no sea medio de transporte.Excepcin: coche, taxi).

    GET OFF - bajar (de un autobs, tren).

    GET ON - subir (a un autobs, tren, moto, avin, barco).

    GET UP levantarse.GIVE BACK devolver.

    GIVE UP - perder la esperanza, rendirse.

    GIVE UP (+ ing) - dejar (de fumar, beber) .GO AHEAD - Siga!/por supuesto, hgalo!/con total libertad!/sin

    GO AWAY - irse, marcharse.GO BACK- volver, regresar.GO DOWN bajar.

    GO OUT - salir (a hacer algo fuera de casa).GO UP subir.

    HANG ON/HOLD ON - esperarHANG UP - colgar (el telfono).

    KEEP UP WITH seguir el ritmo a (mantenerse al mismo nivel).KNOCK DOWN - derribar, atropellar, demoler.

    LEAVE BEHIND olvidarse algo, dejar.

    LET IN - dejar entrar.LOOK AFTER cuidar.LOOK FOR buscar.

    LOOK FORWARD TO + ING/NOUN - esperar con ilusin.

    LOOK OUT/WATCH OUT - tener cuidado, Ojo!

    LOOK UP - buscar algo (en un libro, diccionario).PUT IN - meter, introducir.

    PUT ON encender.PUT ON - ponerse (la ropa).

    RUN OUT OF - quedarse sin algo, acabrsele a alguien algo.RUN OVER- atropellar.

    SET OFF - ponerse en camino.

    TAKE AFTER- parecerse a.

    TAKE OFF despegar.TAKE OFF - quitarse la ropa.

    TAKE OUT - extraer, sacar.THROW AWAY - tirar (en la basura)

    TURN DOWN - bajar (el volumen)TURN UP - poner el volumen ms fuerte.

    TURN UP - aparecer, presentarse en un sitio.TURN OUT- resultar, ser al final (result ser un fraude: it turned out to be a

    fraud)TURN ON - encender (televisin, luces etc)
