Value
The lightness or darkness of a color
Ex. Gray has a high lightness of black and high darkness of white.

Shape
The shape of an object
Ex. Square, oval, triangular, etc.
7. Graphic Design Elements -- Texture
Texture
Texture can refer to the actual surface of a design, or to the visual appearance of a design. In our case, it is the visual appearance where texture is implied through the style of design.
Ex. Wood texture, diamond texture, etc.

9. Graphic Design Principles -- Movement
Movement
Using design elements, such as lines, shape, color, and texture to convey action on a still image
10. Graphic Design Principles -- Balance
Balance
Equal visual weight
Symmetrical
A central axis dividing the composition in the middle, horizontally or vertically, with the same design on both sides
Asymmetrical
Off-center or created with an odd or mismatched number of disparate elements. You are evenly distributing elements which will balance out each other.
11. Graphic Design Principles -- Emphasis
Emphasis
The focal point or focus of an image. Something that is singled out or made more prominent has emphasis.
Use graphic design elements to create emphasis
White space is negative space
12. Graphic Design Principles -- Unity
Unity
Ties various works of art together
A measure of how elements on a page seem to fit or belong together.
Proximity is the arrangement of objects in a composition. Helps determine unity.

Color

Hue
Another word for color
15. Color -- Chroma
Chroma
Intensity/purity of color
16. Color Tint, Tone and Shade
Tint
Color mixed with white

RGB
Red, Green and Blue light are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.
Used in light and digital settings
18. Color - CMYK
CMYK
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black
Used in printing and refers to the four inks
19. Color Gamut
The range of colors that a system can print or display.
The RGB color gamut has 16 million colors, while CMYK has substantially less.
20. The art and technique of arranging type, type design and modifying type
Typography
21. Typography -- Legibility
Legibility
Making sure the audience can read and understand your text.
22. Typography Fonts
Font family
A group of fonts that exhibit similar characteristics
Font size
Younger audiences may be able to read fonts sized at 8 or 9 points.
Older audiences may be able to read font sizes around 10 points or above.
Font sizes above 14 points break down the continuity of the text, making text appear too gray.
23. Typography Letter, word and line spacing
Letter and character spacing adds interest and assistance for the reader
Leading
Amount of space between lines in a paragraph
Kerning/Tracking
Amount of space between all letters on a line
Baseline
The line upon which text is situated

Allows you to move a selected part of an image within a given layer.

There are FOUR. These allow you to select portions of an object, file, or photo, or subject.

There are THREE lasso tools.
Lasso and Polygonal Lasso
Let you draw around and select an object using curves and line segments
Magnetic Lasso
Lets you draw around and select an object with the drawn lines snapping to the object
Lines snap based on calculations determined by color differences in the object and background
42. Magic Wand Tool
Allows you to make a selection automatically based on a color, without having to physically trace the outline, by clicking in a specific area with the mouse
43. Eye Dropper Tool
This allows you to match a color exactly by clicking on an area of the image and then offers information about that color
44. Patch Tool
This allows you to choose a part of the image and use it as a sample for repairing (patching) another part of the image.
45. Brush Tool
Allows you to select a brush, choose its characteristics, including size, shape, spacing, roundness, hardness, angle, diameter, mode, opacity, and more, and then use the brush for various types of artwork.
46. Clone Stamp Tool
Lets you duplicate any area in an image and paint that area over any other part of the image.
Use the Alt key and click to get the sample area
47. Eraser Tool
Erases to the background layer by dragging the mouse
48. Gradient Tool
Fills a closed object with a range of colors that fade into each other
49. Burn Tool
Used to darken areas of an image or print
50. Text or Type Tool
Used to add words to an image. With this tool selected, you can set options for font, size, color, alignment, and more.

51. Line Tool
Allows you to draw straight lines using the mouse. Is located with other SHAPE tools.
52. Magnification/Zoom Tool
Choose the Zoom/Magnification tool and click on an area of the image to zoom in or out.
