Student Occupational Therapy AssociationStudents have impacted cancer survivors, individuals with mental illnesses, children with disabilities, the homeless population and low income families in Springfield, MO.

Student Occupational Therapy AssociationStudents have impacted cancer survivors, individuals with mental illnesses, children with disabilities, the homeless population and low income families in Springfield, MO.

National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk (21 hours)Cox College partnered with NAMI, an alliance dedicated to improving the lives of persons affected by mental illness and their families, to raise money and awareness to support education and advocacy.

Parent Café (13 hours)SOTA partnered with the Pediatric Care Collaborative and the Springfield Resilience Initiative to provide social and sensorimotor groups for children and families in the Springfield area. Leah Gossard created a lesson plan for the children and gathered volunteers to help facilitate!

Relay for Life (11 hours)Cox College was a sponsor for this year’s Relay for Life event! We brought an awesome team of volunteers who helped with registration and serving dinner for the cancer survivors.

Hope Connection (40 hours)“Plarning” making the mats out of plastic bags. Hope Connection Project is a collaboration with Missouri State and OTC to each provide 50 mats by November 2019.

At Cox College, we believe in research that directly informs OT service delivery in the “real world.” Occupational Therapy Students at Cox College have presented on the following topics at local, state, and national conferences in the past year: ❑ NICU Staff Knowledge and the OT role in NICU service delivery for babies born addicted to opioids ❑ Role of Occupational Therapy in delivery of Services and Supports for Homeless Persons ❑ The OTs Role in Addressing Substance Abuse in Older Adults❑ OT confidence in Treating Adolescents with Mental Illness❑ The OTs Role in Supporting Aging in place❑ Assessing Knowledge of Universal Design in Primary School Educators ❑ Understanding the OTs Role in Trauma Informed Care❑ Examining the Relation between Occupational Therapy and Functional Outcomes among Prosthesis Users❑ Assessing Educator-Reported Social Validity for Sensory and Occupation-Based Classroom Strategies

Innovation PostersOccupational Therapy students presented innovative information in the community on subjects related to pediatrics, geriatrics, and specific functions: ❑ ADLs - privacy shower, modified toilet hygiene equipment, cooking utensils, drink ware, independent dressing equipment for females, make up applicators for grooming ❑ Leisure - adaptive work out equipment, adaptive musical equipment, adaptive tools, adaptive equipment for sexual activity, baseball glove, fine motor walker to support leisure, reading stand, adaptive grill ❑ Play - adaptive tricycle, adapted mouse to play games on a computer ❑ School - adaptive writing board, writing aid with wrist support
