Tthe Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), for several years had been organising twoseparate seminars related to plantation labour, namely 1) Palm Industry Labour:
Issues, Performance & Sustainability (PILIPS)and2)Oil Palm Mechanisation (PalmMech).Aslabourandmechanisationareintandeminenhancingproductivity,MPOBiscombiningthese two seminars. This 2-in-1 seminar is known as PILIPS & PalmMech Seminar. TheinauguralSeminarin2016isthemedSynchronising Labour & Mechanisation: Redesigning Approaches, is in linewith the objectives of theNational Key EconomicArea for PalmOil(NKEA-PO)inincreasingproductivityandreducinglabourthroughmechanisation.Itiswellknownthattheplantationsectorisfacinglabourproblemsandeverescalatingcostofproduction.Forthe industrytoremaincompetitive,productivityneedstobefurtherenhanced through improvedmechanisation in field operations. The seminar providersaplatformformembers the industry toshare informationandviewsoncurrent labourand mechanisation issues, generate new ideas, formulate strategies, seek investmentopportunities and adopt new technologies. The seminar also providers networkingopportunitiesamongtheindustryplayers.
