WORK EXPERIENCE 12.06.08 Danny Ikinepule A C SThis is Danny’s last year at Auckland Commercial spares. He is 21 and is moving on. He is planning to do some of his week at UNIT and they will get Danny into a paid employment, hopefully along the same lines as what Danny is doing now, because it is what he is good at and enjoys doing. Shorty sets up a part to be dismantled then leaves Danny to get on with independently. He’s really good, but if he finds a nut or bolt that is too tight, he calls out to Shorty for help.

Danny is an expert on stripping down a van door. When I arrived to see him, Shorty was nowhere in sight and Dan worked completely independent. He is very competent with all the tools he has to use, knowing what tool to use for each task; he is using a magnet to pick up a nut that fell inside the door when he got it undone.

Straight into it, no instruction from Shorty. Dan is so self assured. First the door hinge is taken off then the door catch, next the upholstery door panel and the window winder. Dan works methodically until the job is done.

Shorty helped Dan lever the strip off, it is glued on and over time becomes really hard to remove. That door is finished and they get another for Dan to dismantle. This is a very large door off a van that the two of them bought from down the back. With help to set it up, Danny is again on his own to get on with the job.
