ObjectiveThe children will segment, blend, and match onsets and rimes in words.
Materials• Rime Bingo Boards (Activity Master) - Copy on cardstock, cut apart, and laminate. • Counters (or BINGO chips)• Onset and Rime Picture Cards (Activity Master) - Copy on cardstock, cut apart, and laminate.• Extension: Dry Erase markers and erasers
ActivityAfter teacher introduction, children match rimes while playing a Bingo game.1. Place Rime Picture Cards face down in a stack. Give each child one Rime BINGO Board. Taking turns, child one
selects the top card and silently names the picture (e.g., box). Then, orally segments the word into onset and rime (e.g., “/b/ /ox/!”).
2. All children say the word by blending the sounds (e.g., “box”) and then search on their rime picture boards for the picture with the matching rime. They will place a Bingo marker chip on the picture.
