Chapter 1 Phonetics and Phonology

Phonetics is the study of physical properties of speech sounds which are used in language to convey meaning.

Phonetics also deals with how different sounds are created and how those sounds change in different environments

Acoustic Phonetics

Is the study of how humans perceive sounds. What is heard is analyzed physiologically to learn more of the functioning of human ears, nerve, and brain.

Auditory Phonetic Examples

Is the study of the overall sound system whereas phonetics focus on specific sound. Phonology deals with how these sounds fall into a patterned system of speech which is often governed by predictable rules.
