Reflection of visit:

The trip offered an effective handover of the project to Louise and Josh and allowed them to become familiar with the classes they will be working in throughout the year. It was useful to see the daily structures and routines used in Motylek School and compare similarities and differences with those used at Phoenix School. It also provided a good opportunity to observe the use of Motyek’s communication tool VOKS and reflect on how this compares with the use of PECS.

Reflection of visit: Interesting Visit seeing the school and shadowing our mentors. We had a chance to spend a little more time in the early year’s classes and both were able to support pupils with VOX and other communication. We both found it very interesting to be able to do some of the work we do at Phoenix at the school and the pupils enjoyed a Yoga class run by myself and LG. Next time we hope to spend more time in class and more time being part of the learning and communication.

Reflection: It has been an interesting week spending more time in our classes and supporting the pupils with their communication. We have had more opportunities to share some of our skills and be a part of a working class. As well as this it has been an opportunity to see how VOX is implemented in the class and how this supports the pupils learning. What we have seen is that it is being used at key areas of the day but not throughout the day. Seeing how lessons are structured has been interesting and an opportunity for us to reflect on our own practise. It has also been an opportunity for our SLT Kim to see how the school works as well as given her the opportunity to learn and support during the week.
