Public Awareness Programs •  In June 2005, regulations revised to require all

operators to comply with API Recommended Practice 1162

•  Communications Plans tailored to Stakeholder Audience

–  Residents along ROW, General Public, Local Public Officials, Emergency Responders

•  Operators must evaluate effectiveness of public awareness programs

•  Operators Public Awareness Program Effectiveness Evaluations (PAPEEs) are scheduled to be inspected by PHMSA by the end of CY 2012

Control Room Management Objectives

•  Help assure controllers will continue to be successful

in maintaining pipeline safety and integrity

•  –Verify that procedures, systems and equipment are well thought out, and function as designed
