Yeah you Got It!!!Yeah you Got It!!!

It would take 97 times going between Washington D.C. and San Francisco to equal the same distance as the moon travels around the Earth each month.

Quick Fact #2Quick Fact #2

Did you know that moon rocks brought back to Earth by the Apollo missions date the moon to be about 4.5 billion years old? That is pretty old! But, it is still a few million years younger than the Earth.

Quick Fact # 3Quick Fact # 3

We only see one side of the moon which we call the light side while the other that we do not see we call the “dark side.” While the moon revolves around the Earth it takes it about 29 ½ days to go through a full cycle.

Page 9: Phases of the Moon An Interactive Presentation By: Mrs. Sarita Shetenhelm Click these buttons to go onto the next slide. Click this button to come back

Ok so…Ok so…

• Now that we know some fun facts lets talk about these cycles that the moon goes through?

• The Moon goes through different phases each month they include New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and Waning Crescent. Then the phases start over again.

Page 10: Phases of the Moon An Interactive Presentation By: Mrs. Sarita Shetenhelm Click these buttons to go onto the next slide. Click this button to come back

• The word “waxing” means to grow so during these phases where waxing is found you can tell the moon is growing bigger.

So if waxing means to grow---What do you think “waning” means?

a. Shrink

b. Expand

c. Grow

d. None of the above

Before we go on…Before we go on…

Check out this website. It has a short video and a little game that has to do with the phases of the moon.

New MoonNew Moon

Now that you have seen that quick video. Let’s review, we start the phases out with a new moon. This is when the moon is blocking the sun so it looks like there is no moon.

Cool Moon FactsCool Moon Facts

Here are some quick and very cool moon facts for you!

Moon isn’t round it is actually shaped like an egg! The moon shakes! Apollo astronauts took a seismograph

(this measures earthquakes on Earth) and found that there were moonquakes. Pretty Awesome!
