PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program Te post-graduate year one (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency is designed to provide a broad range of experiences to develop a competent and confdent practitioner of pharmaceutical care in multiple patient environments tailored to the needs and interests of the resident. Medical Specialty, LLC and Dr. Aziz Pharmacy and Clinic ofer a variety of experiences for those seeking advanced opportunities in community pharmacy with interest in management, ambulatory care, and academia. Te residency is afliated with the Purdue Univer- sity College of Pharmacy. Program Description Te community pharmacy resident will receive instruction and experience in each of the following components: Community Pharmacy Operations: Te resident will be exposed to traditional and specialty medications as well as compounding ser- vices. Academia: Te resident will serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students. Te resident will also develop and provide guest lectures for local universities and pharmacy associations. Te resident will also participate in lectures and informational symposia for the general public. Finally, the resident will complete the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certifcate Program. Management: Te resident will be exposed to marketing and participate in the development of a public relations campaign. Along with the residency director, the resident will participate in fnancial analysis and human resources services. Research: In coordination with Purdue University College of Pharmacy, the resident will complete a community-practice related re- search project and prepare a manuscript suitable for publication. Ambulatory Care: Te resident will collaborate on therapy management with staf physicians and nurse practitioners in direct patient care activities. Te program will aford the resident with the opportunity to perform physical assessments that include: EKG, lab review and interpretation, home sleep testing, nutritional assessment and consultation, and immunization services. Te resident will also participate in disease state management programs including: MTM, diabetes, dyslipidemia, osteoporosis, hypertension, and women’s health. Te resident will develop health screenings and community outreach programs throughout the year, as well as work with our management team to help develop and implement new pharmacy care programs. PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program The post-graduate year one (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency is designed to provide a broad range of experiences to develop a competent and confident practitioner of pharmaceutical care in multiple patient environments tailored to the needs and interests of the resident Medical Specialty LLC and Dr Aziz Pharmacy and Clinic offer a variety of experiences for those seeking advanced opportunities in community pharmacy with interest in management ambulatory care and academia The residency is affiliated with the Purdue Univershysity College of Pharmacy

Program Description The community pharmacy resident will receive instruction and experience in each of the following components

Welcome to Dr Aziz We are an independently owned pharmacy in Indianapolis Indiana that specializes in compounding hormone replacement therapy immunizations and specialty medications We also have a primary-care clinic on-site staffed by a physician and two nurse practicioners The 2016ndash2017 resident will become an integral member of the medical clinic compounding pharmacy and retail aspect of the business

In the medical clinic you will perform medication therapy management (MTM) travel clinic consultations and vaccine administration and help manage the medical and pharmaceutical care of patients from a variety of backgrounds You will work intimately with the physician and nurse practicioners gleaning patient care and clinical pearls from their many yearsrsquo experience You will be tasked with filling in gaps in their knowledge or understanding when it comes to current guidelines or new evidence-based practice directly contributing to patient care

Compounding is another very important aspect of the Dr Aziz experience You will gain

a new respect for the intensely personal nature of customized medicinemdashwhether it is hormone replacement veterinary medicine or specialty pain creams You will learn about the state and federal laws governing compounded medications and participate in maintaining our lab to those standards You may participate in researching or developing formulas to treat a patientrsquos specific needs

The retail pharmacy at Dr Aziz is quite different from anything yoursquod find in a chain pharmacy In addition to pick up and drive-thru we also ship medications to customer homes and physician offices We dispense and counsel on many compounded and specialty medications and often

partner with physicians to make recommendations covering patientsrsquo pharmaceutical care We are very focused on patient care and with our wide selection of OTC vitamins and supplements we are able to meet the needs of a wide range of patients Pharmacists are frequently found out in the lobby consulting with patients on these products making recommendations and referring patients to the clinic for MTM services

To be successful in this position you must be a multi-tasker and an excellent communicator and possess good ambulatory-care-focused clinical skills and knowledge An interest in business is also a plus
