8:00am Holy Communion
10:30am Family Communion*
The Order of Service is contained in the separate Service Book.
Opening Hymn*
1. Christ is the King! O friends rejoice; brothers and sisters, with one voice tell all the world he is your choice.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
2. O magnify the Lord, and raise anthems of joy and holy praise
for Christ's brave saints of ancient days.
3. They with a faith for ever new followed the King, and round him drew
thousands of faithful hearts and true.
4. O Christian women, Christian men, all the world over, seek again the Way disciples followed then.
5. Christ through all ages is the same: place the same hope in his great name,
with the same faith his word proclaim.
6. Let love's unconquerable might your scattered companies unite
in service to the Lord of light.
7. So shall God's will on earth be done, new lamps be lit, new tasks begun,
and the whole church at last be one.
Words: George Kennedy Allen Bell (1883-1958) Music: Vulpius (Gelobt Sei Gott), Melody from Melchior Vulpius’s Gesangbuch, 1609
(Ancient & Modern – 486)
Collect
Almighty God,
whose Son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving presence:
renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness
sustain us by your mighty power; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading – Nehemiah 8.1-3,5-6,8-10*
All the people gathered together into the square before the Water Gate. They told the scribe Ezra to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had given to
Israel. Accordingly, the priest Ezra brought the law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could hear with understanding. This was on the first day of
the seventh month. He read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those
who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing
above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God and all the people answered, ‘Amen, Amen,’ lifting
up their hands. Then they bowed their heads and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground. So they read from the book, from the law of God, with
interpretation. They gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading. And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, ‘This day is holy to the LORD your
God; do not mourn or weep.’ For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, ‘Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and
send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our LORD; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’
Second Reading – 1 Corinthians 12.12-31a
Just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body,
though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and we were all made to
drink of one Spirit. Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot would say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ that
would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear would say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of
the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged
the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members, yet one body. The eye
cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I have no need of you.’ On the contrary, the members of the body that seem to be weaker
are indispensable, and those members of the body that we think less honourable we clothe with greater honour, and our less respectable members are treated with greater respect; whereas our more respectable members do not need this. But God
has so arranged the body, giving the greater honour to the inferior member, that there may be no dissension within the body, but the members may have the same
5
care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one
member is honoured, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles,
second prophets, third teachers; then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all
prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But strive for the greater gifts.
Gradual Hymn*
1. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness,
and all these things shall be added unto you; Allelu-, alleluia:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, allelu, alleluia!
2. Ask, and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find,
knock, and the door shall be opened unto you; Allelu-, alleluia:
3. We shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord;
Allelu-, alleluia:

Gospel – Luke 4.14-21
Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. When he came to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled
the scroll and found the place where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to
proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ And he rolled up the
scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been
fulfilled in your hearing.’
6
Offertory Hymn*
1. O thou, who at thy Eucharist didst pray that all thy church might be for ever one,
grant us at every Eucharist to say with longing heart and soul, ‘Thy will be done’:
O may we all one bread, one body be, through this blest sacrament of unity.
2. For all thy church, O Lord, we intercede;
make thou our sad divisions soon to cease; draw us the nearer each to each, we plead,
by drawing all to thee, O Prince of Peace: thus may we all one bread, one body be, through this blest sacrament of unity.
3. We pray thee too for wanderers from thy fold; O bring them back, good Shepherd of the sheep,
back to the faith which saints believed of old, back to the church which still that faith doth keep: soon may we all one bread, one body be,
through this blest sacrament of unity.
4. So, Lord, at length when sacraments shall cease,
may we be one with all thy church above, one with thy saints in one unbroken peace, one with thy saints in one unbounded love:
more blessed still, in peace and love to be one with the Trinity in Unity.
Words: William Henry Turton (1856-1938) Music: Song 1, melody and bass by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625)
(Ancient & Modern - 460)
Communion Anthem*
Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes;
and I shall keep it unto the end.
Words: Psalm 119.33 Music: Thomas Attwood (1765-1838)
7
Communion Hymn*
1. I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved, and free,
the life of Jesus to recall, in love laid down for me.
2. I come with Christians far and near
to find, as all are fed, the new community of love
in Christ's communion bread.
3. As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends.
The love that made us, makes us one, and strangers now are friends.
4. The Spirit of the risen Christ,
unseen, but ever near, is in such friendship better known:
alive among us here.
5. Together met, together bound, by all that God has done,
we'll go with joy, to give the world, the love that makes us one.
Words: Brian Wren (b 1936)

Post Communion Prayer
Almighty Father,
whose Son our Saviour Jesus Christ is the light of the world: may your people,
illumined by your word and sacraments, shine with the radiance of his glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed
to the ends of the earth; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen.
8
Final Hymn
1. Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
2. Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?
3. Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?
4. Will you love the ‘you’ you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around,
through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?
5. Lord your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I'll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Announcement Made
Last Week
I am pleased to announce that a new clergy member is soon to be joining
the Team. Ordained two and a half years ago, the Revd Owen Williams is
currently assistant curate in the neighbouring parish of Uppingham.
The Bishop and those responsible for his training have decided that a move will be beneficial for Owen at this
stage as he looks to consolidate his learning and experience, and complete
his curacy in a different context. Owen, his wife Rachel and their three
children, will continue to live in Uppingham. Owen’s first Sunday in
the Team will be 7th February. I’m sure you will want to join me in
making him and his family feel very welcome.
