Functionality of the month – the new patch is out ! Petrel 2005 - Patch 1 Release

A major patch release of Petrel 2005 is now available. It complements the Petrel 2005 release with a number of small enhancements to existing functionality and general bug fixes. This patch contains an extensive list of workflow enhancements in Petrel Geophysics, Core & Modeling, Reservoir Engineering, and Data Management. Patch features

o The new ZGY realization enables better clipping control for seismic v isualization. o Enhanced workflow for production of CGM & PDF plots with the JustCGM* product. o The well log, well top and points calculators are now accessible from the Process Manager. o OpenSpirit version 2.9 support, enabling improved data connectiv ity to industry standard databases

and a set of new OpenSpirit enabled applications. o ProSource plug-in in Petrel workflows enabling coordinated information management (IM) of project

data in traditional G&G workflows in asset teams. o This Petrel patch coincides with the ECLIPSE 2006.1 release. Hence Petrel 2005 has now

extended support for ECLIPSE 2006.1. o Petrel directly supports 64 bit FrontSim on Windows XP64 o Petrel support for all the new keyword features in ECLIPSE 2006.1. o Simulator GRID & EGRID files suppressed o Cartesian Linear LGR

In total 120 reported Petrel issues have been resolved in this major patch release. The Patch Release Notes prov ides a full listing of all workflow enhancements and bug fixes. Please ask for a copy from your local Petrel support.

Tips of the month – How to extract connected volumes seeded by a well or a group of wells?

Select the Facies you want to work with Select the type of Facies

Select Cross zone boundaries if you allow bodies to be connected through Zones

Select Filter if you want to apply this process on pre-selected cells

Select Cross Faults if you allow bodies to be connected through Faults

1 – Select Geometrical Modeling and Connected Volumes

If you want to apply this process to several wells, visualize the wells and select this option Push individual

Highlight of the month – How to capture and save pictures from and into Petrel ?

1 – Copy Bitmap 2 – Go under Main tool bar / Edit / Paste Bitmap 3 – The Bitmap will appear at the bottom of the input data 4 – The Bitmap does not have coordinates so it cannot be v isualized in 3D. 5 - If you have the module “Surface Imaging”, you can assign coordinates to the picture and see it in 3D domain. 6 – If not it can only be v isualized in a map or plot windows

In Petrel, you can easily import Bitmap as well as JPEG images, so you can get for example your PowerPoint slides directly inside Petrel (workflow described in December 2005 issue). You can also save some screen captures directly inside your project:
