Dear prospective licensees,After 10 years at the San Diego RegionalCenter (SDRC) I decided to strike out onmy own, and I have been providingcomprehensive support to careprovidersfor six years now. I provide monthlyconsultation to 15 facilities, but I havespent 30-years working in one aspect oranother of the residential services field,as direct care staff, workshop and dayprogram instructor, and as a QMRP. Iearned a B.A. from UC Berkeley and aM.A. from SDSU, both in Psychology.

At SDRC I worked as a ServiceCoordinator, in the Intake Department,and for 5 years as a Quality Assuranceinspector of Board and Care homes. Iam an expert in both Title 17 and Title22 regulations, have broad insiderknowledge of the regional center system,long-term familiarity with licensing, andknow a variety of professionals in thefield. My parents operated an ARF-DDhome for 25 years and this is one reasonI became an advocate for care providers.

The orientation isdesigned for a broad audience with anemphasis on the application materials andwill not adequately address yourindividual situation or concerns.

What type of facility is best for me?What classes and other requirements do Ineed to complete? Are there any potentialproblems with my house? A personalizedapproach is required to answer thesequestions.

The completion of an application fora facility license will take most peoplemany weeks, even months, of exhaustivework. Once completed you will have noway of knowing what problems may bepresent in your work; problems that candelay the approval of your application andthe granting of a license.

Since 2004 I have completed over100 license applications for child, adult,and elderly facilities. I generally write atleast one per month and therefore knowwhat to expect throughout the process andwhat current licensing and regional centerpersonnel are looking for.
