Hanoi, 2015This book belongs to: .Learning outcomesThis first semester personality training workshop has provided students with a solid introduction to the broad field of perception, communication and presentation. This second semester personality training will deepen their knowledge gained during the first semester workshop and will strongly build on top of the fundamentals that have been discussed during the first workshop. After two days of intensive training students are expected to know:1. The structure of complex presentation2. How to successfully deliver a complex and well structured presentation3. How to make small talks in cross-cultural business environment4. How to write their CV and prepare for a stressful job interview situation5. How to improve body language
6. How to analyze audience
7. The importance of cultural understanding when presenting for a multicultural groupCourse Description
Speaking clearly and comfortably in public is a valuable and often essential skill to possess. For future employees in the tourism industry, knowing how to communicate in an effective and professional way is a must. This workshop will give students the opportunity to develop and strengthen skills in preparing and presenting public oral presentations in a variety of situations. It also aims to sharpen students understanding of the role of culture in business communication since they are to have their internship in Austria in the coming semester. In addition, the course will provide students with essential tips to write their CVs and deal with different job interview situations. The course is divided into several theoretical parts and a large number of practical exercises.
Teaching Concept
Brief theoretical parts will be the backbone and basic structure of this workshop. Several practical tasks will be given to students so that they can apply what they have just learned into practice. An environment of appreciation and trust, created by all group members, will be the base for individual growth and visible progress for each and every one. The instructor will provide students with feedback and useful hints on how to improve their performances in real-life situations. Student Directed Learning Time
This personality training lecture is designed as an interactive workshop that continuously requires the full attention of all students. The preparation of the final presentation will take about two hours.
Assessment
The parameters of success for this workshop will be: active participation, commitment, courage and the willingness to try out something new that might in the long run improve the student s personal quality.
1. Group presentation: 40%
A group of three or four students will be formed at the beginning of the course and this group will work together until the end of the course. The group presentation will incorporate various speaking genres, with the additional task of cooperating in a team to craft an extended presentation on a topic of their choices. This speech will last between 15 and 20 minutes. A written group report of 400 500 words is required at the end of the course.2. Presentation: 40%
This item measures the degree in which the student performs in a presentation.3. Reflection report: 20%
A reflection report of approximately 800 words is to be handed in after the course. The reflection should contain your experiences, thoughts and feelings of working in the course. This is an opportunity for you to reflect on your values and how they impact on your perspectives.
