Regardless of risk - Hand-washing should be performed before and after all interactions
When should patients use masks?
• A patient/resident/client with likely or probable influenza H1N1 should wear a mask if leaving their room or when a staff member or other resident is in the same room
When do you use PPE?
• If you are within 2 meters of a patient with ILI;• Your task is considered moderate or high risk
(direct contact with a patient with suspected of confirmed H1N1);
• And if your Point of Care Risk Assessment (PCRA) indicates the need

7. Hygiene Facilities and Cleaning Procedures
• Ensure there are enough hand-washing stations and alcohol gel stations
• Ensure Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures are in place
• Ensure there are adequate and appropriate cleaning and decontamination supplies
8. Health Monitoring
• Ensure there is a system for workers reporting symptoms ( e.g. - to First Aid attendant, manager, infection control)
• Ensure workers know who to report symptoms to and steps to take
• Ensure there is an individual appointed to monitor staff illness (keep a record of workers with symptoms, off sick, etc)
