“The year 1984 and the book 1984 were very different in many different ways. For one, the fashion was very different. In the year, the fashion was very eccentric by today’s standards whereas the fashion in the book was very uniform and bland. The technology was also very different. In the year, computers were just starting to be mass produced; not very advanced. In the book, the technology was way ahead to where they had two way televisions.” (King 2014)

The torture and the killing was too much for him and he was questioning the existence of God. He had done this because he thought that if there was a God, then he surely wouldn’t let this happen to his chosen people, which Elie had believed that the Jewish people were the chosen ones. “How can I believe, how can anyone believe in this God of Mercy?” People all over were losing their faith because they didn’t believe that their God would allow such an atrocious event to happen to their people.
