The Pernambuco Radiology Society (SRPE), founded in 1963, completed 52years of its activities on January last. The new Board of Directors, presided overby Dr. Maria de Fátima Viana Vasco Aragão, is enthusiastically preparing tocelebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mammary Imaging Diagnosis Course,founded and co-ordinated by Dr. Norma Maranhão, and the 18th anniversary ofthe Pernambuco Radiology Convention.

The SRPE began the year with innovations in the scientific programme anddevelopments in the planning of its calendar of activities for 2015, with thefollowing activities already confirmed: The Pernambuco Radiology Journal; TheOngoing Education Course; the Imaging Club; Radiopizza; the XXV BreastImaging Diagnosis Course; the XVIII Pernambuco Radiology Convention and theDay of the Radiologist. We are striving to organise and develop much more forPernambuco!!!

Below, we give details of the activities confirmed for 2015.

ONGOING EDUCATION COURSEIt completes its 20th anniversary, aimed at helpingin the theoretical formation of residents and thosein refresher courses in radiology in the State ofPernambuco. It provides freely and on a regularbasis, two classes twice a week, from Marchthrough October in the SRPE Main Office.

IMAGING CLUBHeld in the relaxing atmosphere of a pizzeria,with the presentation of cases and games andquizzes with prizes. One more gratuitous eventgeared to SRPE members, residents and those inthe refresher courses. This year’s dates are: 18th

May; 24th August and 19th October.

RADIOPIZZAThis is beginning its first year, geared to the theoretical formation of the R2 and A2. Itwill take place on a rotation basis with four classes given monthly for each module:[Emergency (11th March), Doppler (8th April), Thorax (13th May), Neuro (8th July),Muscle-skeleton (12th August), Abdomen (9th September), Paediatrics (14th October)and Head and Neck (11th November)]. It will be a gratuitous course and we will makea limited number of places available for SRPE members who are up to date with theirmembership subscription, and who enrol in advance.

The celebrations will take place in the Mar Hotel Convention, in the cityof Recife, on 12th & 13th June 2015. On 11th June there will be a Pre-Congress Course, “Assisting Life via Radiology“(AVR).

SRPE members with their annuity up to day will get a 50% discount onthe enrolment FEE for the Convention and for the Breast Course. Thescience programme will be spread out over four rooms (Breast; US; RMand TC; Angiography and Intervention and Course for Technicians andTechnologists). Classes will deal primarily with the themes of “Revisionand Updating” (Breast; Muscle-skeleton; Neuro; Abdomen; Pelvis;Thorax: Angiography and Intervention ). Renowned professors will bepresent.

The opening event of Pernambuco Radiology Convention and BreastImaging Course will be on Friday 12th June from 6:15pm to 7:30pm withcocktails and a folk-band to commemorate the June festivals. On Sunday,14th June from 7:30am to 8:30am “If the sun is shining, we will walk or jogtogether on the Boa Viagem beach”, says the animated SRPE President, Dr.Fatima Aragão.

On 7th November 2014 the new Board ofDirectors of the Pernambuco Radiology Society(SRPE) took office for the biennium 2015-2016,having as President, Dr. Maria de Fátima VianaVasco Aragão, substituting and givingcontinuity to the administration headed by Dr.Paulo Borba. The solemnity of induction washeld on the Day of the Radiologist in theauditorium of the Academia Pernambucana deLetras, followed by a lively party in itsadjoining gardens.

During the solemnity, Dr. Lucilo Ávila was confered the title of Honorary Associate and Ms JerusaÁvila the title of Meritorious Associate for services rendered to radiology in Pernambuco while onthe Pernambuco State Commission of Honorary Doctors.

In her induction speech, Dr. Maria de Fátima Vasco Aragão highlighted the significance of the workof all those who had preceded her in the Office and had made SRPE one of the most active ofBrazilian State Societies. She said that she would continue to encourage Pernambuco Radiologywithin the scientific scenario to be always open to national and international cooperation.

In her induction speech Dr. Maria deFátima Vasco Aragão recalled that themission of the SRPE is to advance thework in favour of the formation ofmedical doctors and radiologists; ethicalpractices; professional updating; unityamong radiologists and standing up forthe profession.On closing her talk, she said, “the majoraim of all our work will always bedirected to our patients having thehighest quality of humane and state ofthe art attendance”.

ANNUAL THEORETICAL TEST FOR DESIGNATION

Residents in Radiology and ImagingDiagnosis sitting the annual test inPernambuco.

In an auditorium provided by thePernambuco Hospital das Clinicas,on 14th December 2014, the AnnualDesignation Test was held for Titleos Specialist in Radiology andImaging Diagnosis (R1/A1, R2/A2,R3/A3), as well as for inultrasonography. Present wereresidents from Pernambuco andalso from other Northeasternstates.


The new Board of Directors of the Brazilian College of Radiology was inducted during a solemn event on the premises of the College. It marked the closing of Dr. Henrique Carrete’s successful administration as President of CBR, the nation’s greatest radiology entity, and the beginning of its new administration presided over by Dr.Antonio Matteoni. It was a moment of confraternity, for all those present, among whom were the members of the Board, presidents of radiology societies from other Brazilian states, representatives from various related societies, from medical organisations and from PADI. There was also a large contingent of radiology doctors, advisers and collaborators. Pernambuco was represented by the President of SRPE, Dr. Maria de Fatima Aragao and by Dr. Antonio Carvalho, a SRPE board member, and current Northeaster Vice-President of CBR. SRPE is fine-tuned to the innovative proposals of the CRB, developing a work of mutual cooperation for the good of Radiology and Imaging.

Taking part in the meeting in São Paulo with the new CRB Board of Directors was the President of the SRPE, Dr. Maria de FátimaVasco Aragão and Dr. Antonio Carvalho, a member of the SRPE Board of Directors and current Northeastern Vice-President of CRB. One of the principal points on the agenda was, “The Faith in Diagnosis via Imaging Programme (PADI). The major objective of PADI is that of inclusion, which means, raising the standard and quality of services in diagnosis via imaging and that all may be incorporated and adjusted to the PADI Norm and, thus guaranteeing excellence allied to remuneration through merit and quality.
