The use of Periscope

Naval usePeriscopes allow a submarine, submerged at a shallow depth, to search for targets and threats in the surrounding sea and air. When not in use, the periscope is retracted into the hull. A sub commander in tactical conditions must exercise discretion when using his periscope, since it creates an observable wake and may be detectable to radar, giving away the sub's position.

Periscope is a certain optical instrument that bases on the light reflection theory.The most common use is to stay beneath the water in order to observe the movement above the water.In trench warfare, the periscope is used for observing the situation of the enemy.

How to make periscope by yourself

Buy two small mirrors, use hard scrip to make two right angle elbow cylinder. (The diameter of the cylinder is a litter bigger than the diameter of mirrors. Then at the right angle of the paper canister karat a tilted mouth at 45 degree, put the mirrors in, and put paper also. Finally put two canister together, a periscope is succeed.

A cost-effective way of making a sturdy demonstration periscope

• 2 pieces of plywood 45 cm × 10 cm and 0.9 cm thick • 2 pieces of plywood at least 37 cm × 10 cm and 0.9 cm thick • 2 pieces of plywood at least 11.6 cm × 10 cm and 0.9 cm thick • 2 pieces of wood which are prism shaped at least 10 cm × 8.5 cm

× 8.5 cm the internal angles should be 90 °and 45° • 2 plastic or glass mirrors 10 cm × 10 cm • small screws to fit. • Screwdriver • Drill with suitable drill bits for the screws • PVA Glue
