The Weather Guide Know Your Weather Vocabulary Through

Poetry! By: Monica Su and Ameya Telang

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is where weather occurs, without it, asteroids would hit us like spurs.Absorbing heat, it does too,So too much light won't come through. It is made out of a thin layer of gases,Clouds move around in big and small masses.

Convection

Convection heat transfer causes ocean currents and wind, the Sun radiates energy to Earth from within. Thanks to the Sun's energy there is heat, convection makes our hair unneat.Hot air sinks and cold air rises, this causes trouble in various sizes.Convection affects weather because it causes storms. It sometimes brings weather that is not really warm.

Wind CurrentsWinds are named after the direction they blow from,

not the direction where they come.Trade winds blow toward the equator,

sailors use these sooner or later. In the southern hemisphere the belts are reversed,

gravity makes nothing fall headfirst.

Ocean Currents

Ocean Currents are continuous and directed by forces, that change the flow from its courses. Many factors influence currents on their route, such as temperature and salinity, which even out. They can flow over great distances, currents can overcome many resistances. The Gulf stream's water is warm, warm water is where hurricanes form. http://3.bp.blogspot.

High PressureHigh Pressure causes stable weather, there are no clouds light as feathers.Cool air sinks and clear skies shine, dry weather and the temperature is fine.Hot days and cool nights, you can see the moonlight.Dew and frost and fog and mist, surface winds rotate outward and are dismissed.

Low Pressure

Low Pressure areas are unstable, cloudy skies are enabled.Little sunshine and precipitation, check your nearby weather station. There will be wind and rain, watch the spinning wind vane. All kinds of weather can occurtornadoes and storms aren't preferred. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-

Cold Fronts

Cold fronts makes it cold, before it was warm and uncontrolled. Before the front the clouds will increase,a short period of precipitation then it will cease. After the front a difference it will be,low humidity and clear skies you will see.High pressure it will bring, and southeastward the cold front will fling.

Page 9: Period 3, Ameya and Monica, The Weather Guide

Warm FrontsWarm Fronts make it warm, maybe it also includes a storm.Precipitation is possible,it causes a lot of trouble. Before it was cool outside, but now that quickly set aside. Before the front the clouds thickened, the barometer falling speed quickened. After the front came and went, humid weather, you can't prevent.

Page 10: Period 3, Ameya and Monica, The Weather Guide

Occluded FrontsOccluded Fronts is a front too, cold air surrounds warm air that goes up through. When the warm air is slow and cold air fast,a cyclone will form and last.A change in temperature will be expected, the dewpoint and wind direction might also be affected.

HurricanesWhat may come, what has past,Will always leave a memory that lasts.Hurricanes are destructive forces. They cause harm and go in different courses. Hurricanes form due to warm ocean air. They cause damage that really is not fair. Then the ocean supplies warm water. The hurricane rages as currents get hotter. The weather is affected because it starts to rain. If its too much, then houses are slain.

Tornadoes Tornadoes may seem a little dangerous. But do you know the science behind them? Tornados are gigantic clouds that reach down to Earth. They are funnel shaped even at birth. They form in low heavy cumulonimbus clouds. They wreak havoc all around. They cause the sky to precipitate. Sometimes they cause very bad fates. Where the cold and warm air masses meet.Tornadoes are bound to greet. They affect weather because they form from thunderstorms. This can bring weather that is not really warm. Overall tornadoes are really violent.Let us hope you don't come by one. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:F5_tornado_Elie_Manitoba_2007.jpg

Sun and Sun's Energy

The Sun provides the energy for convection. The Sun and its energy reaches Earth in the form of radiation. The Sun provides heat, there is no objection.Yet, the Sun does have some imperfections. The Sun can cause harm to you. So don't do something you normally would not do. The Sun's energy can be used.Solar panels is how it can be reused. The Sun can affect the weather with its heat.If we put on sunscreen, it's something we can beat.It causes the weather to be sunny. So we can go outside and not be fussy. The Sun can affect the ocean currents. The Sun heats them up and makes them warm and less cold. The energy will travel in electromagnetic waves.Sometimes when its cold, its the Sun's heat we all crave.

Weather MapsWeather Maps are used to help predict weather. With them its the weather we can measure. The weather maps are helpful in so many ways.It can tell us the weather on all the right days. They show us the high and low fronts. So then the weather we can easily confront. Here is an example: An ordinary sample:

Isotherm and Isobar

Isotherms are lines connecting the same temperatures. They are on maps which is very regular. Isobars are lines connecting the same air pressure. Hopefully its high to our pleasure. Here is an example of an isotherm map.It is colored, you can see that!

Page 16: Period 3, Ameya and Monica, The Weather Guide

Types of PrecipitationThe types of precipitation can come in hail, sleet, snow, and rain.Unfortunately, sometimes it can precipitate all day. Precipitation can come in thunderstorms.Generally, when this happens the weather is not warm. Precipitation affects weather in many ways. The weather could turn cold all day. The precipitation is based on the temperature of the atmosphere.Hail and snow could be to much to adhere. Hopefully it does not precipitate.Or else you'd be stuck inside to play. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowhttp://ww2.valdosta.edu/~clmaxwell/topic.html

Page 17: Period 3, Ameya and Monica, The Weather Guide

Types of CloudsThere are many types of clouds in the skies today. Some of them promise great weather all day. While some clouds we don't really appreciate. They can tell us if it will precipitate. The clouds can affect the weather.Though they look as light as a feather. Some stratus and comulonimbus clouds make it rainy cold. Some cirrus and cirrocumulus make it warm and nice as we were told.

Page 18: Period 3, Ameya and Monica, The Weather Guide

Dew Point The dew point is an atmospheric temperature under which water droplets can condense. Then when they condense enough they form dew and it all makes sense. Dew point can vary.Depending on how much the air is watery.Dew point can affect the weather.Depends on if it's humid all together. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dew

How Scientists Get Images

Scientist get images to identify weather patterns. They sometimes use satellites which are very modern. They give them high resolution pictures. Of weather and meteorological structures.Sometimes they also get them from the Hubble Space Telescope. Then they get the pictures for which they really hoped. They are used to identify. And to nearly specify.Don't forget to simply.Complex patterns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Space_Telescope

Meteorological Instruments Used By Scientists

Scientists use many instruments to measure different things. The barometer measures air pressure important for airplane wings. The anemometer measures the speed of wind. This can be helpful for a plane's incline. The next instrument used is the thermometer. This is used to measure temperature!
