When my kids "discovered" vinyl, their lives changed. All three now have turntables and are building their own

collections. Cool.

Sound familiar? What was your first album? I had four much older brothers, teenage rebels in the late 60s and 70s. We had crates and crates full of records in our rec room. The turntable was off-limits to the little sisters, but when the boys went away to college or to find themselves, we girls commandeered that rec room and made it our own. We danced, set up forts, spread out our Barbies and hosted Scout meetings and epic sleepovers. While we missed our sweet brothers dearly, there was something magical about being in that room listening to records through heavy headphones. I played Carol King (Tapestry was my first album, purchased at Melody

Records with babysitting money) and borrowed a Peter Frampton album from the girl next door. My brothers left behind Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Ramsey Lewis and The Who. Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" and Respighi's "Pines of Rome" were on the shelves and I would listen, transported to a higher place far, far away -- as far away as a 13-year-old girl in suburban Detroit could imagine. Music has that power, doesn't it?  I'm a huge fan of Spotify and listen to their New Music Friday station and, if I'm lucky, find one title to add to a playlist in my library. More often, I hit "browse" and find a genre or mood (chill, mood booster, workout...) and settle into a task.

What are you listening to these days?  If you need a fresh perspective, check out our Parting Thoughts, where we tuned into a college student's play-list to discover some new music.

Enjoy our stories about music and art in the community this month and crank up the volume!

AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL SHOW

The American Craft Council Show is the Southeast’s largest juried indoor craft show, bringing together over 225 of the country’s most talented contemporary craft makers under one roof. The three-day show draws thousands of fine craft lovers and collectors who enjoy finding one-of-a-kind, quality crafts in jewelry, clothing, furniture and home décor while meeting the artists behind the fabulous work. Among the master artisans selected through an extensive juried process are two Buckhead artists, Anne Vincent and Lynn Pollard, along with Kathleen Plate, Debra Kidd and Adrina Richard of Brookhaven. This year the

show debuts Style Slam, where some of Atlanta's most savvy stylists pair up with fashion wearable, accessory and jewelry artists to showcase cutting-edge fashion throughout the show floor. For the entire family, the Let’s Make program engages show-goers to touch, feel and experience the hands-on creative process of making a piece of artwork. A variety of artisans will provide interactive craft making demonstrations as well as tastings of handcrafted foods and beverages, including The Balvenie handcrafted Scotch whisky. The show returns for the 27th year to the Cobb Galleria Center, March 11-13. CraftCouncil.org/Atlanta

NOT JUST AN IRISH THING

Atlanta’s St. Patrick’s Day parade (March 12, 12   to 1:30 p.m) – started by the city’s Hibernian Benevolent Society – dates back to 1858, making it one of the country’s oldest. Participation in the parade is not just an “Irish thing.” The parade attracts individuals and groups from around the city and the South including clowns, floats, bands, bagpipe and drum corps, children, dancers, drill teams, and more. The emphasis is on children and families in celebration of all of Atlanta’s diverse backgrounds on a day when “everybody is Irish.” Come enjoy as 2,000 dancers, musicians, and Irish enthusiasts, plus giant balloons, floats, and marching bands converge in Midtown and head south on Peachtree St. from 15th St. NE to 5th St. NE.

Gazing at beautiful graceful golden fish swimming in a natural pond is an exquisite experience. Calming, spiritual, at one with nature, a koi

pond truly is a thing of beauty, and if the pond is installed and maintained properly, a koi pond will provide happiness for years.

Chuck Crisp says enjoying a koi pond is addictive. “You sit there and you start socializing with the fish. They really become family pets. Koi are very social and they’ll eat out of your hand.” He is president of Splendor Koi and Pond.

“We were very careful when we named our business. We went through a thousand different names,” says Chuck. “Our theme is ‘Let us create a place of splendor for you.’ That’s what a koi pond is all about — serenity, contentment, enjoyment. People sit by their ponds and they relax.”

Chuck  and his team can help with everything from the initial consultation to designing, build-ing and maintaining the pond and selecting the fish. The store and showroom offer a full line of pond supplies, including filtration sys-tems of all sizes, aeration systems, heat-ers, skimmers, plumping equipment and leak repair kits. Oh yes, if you want koi, don’t worry! Splendor

Koi offers the largest selection of high-quality

koi in the Southeast. The larger investments

are the fish as well as a quality filtration systems. “We can sell a

four-inch koi for $500 or a 12-inch one for $75,” he says. Crisp hand selects

the koi from fish farms. Prices range from $25 to $12,000.Ponds can be as small as 200 gallons,

which he said is perfect for a condo. “A koi pond requires a waste filtration system and must

be at least four-feet deep. People break that rule all the time. They think they can just dig a hole, put in

liner and you’re done but it’s not that simple. The key is filtration. If it’s done properly, the pond will work well and

efficiently; if not, you’ll always have a problem.” As an example of his integrity, passion for his work and

dedication to customers, Chuck, who has spent his entire life in the Marietta area, will not build a pond without a proper filtration

system, which can cause algae to grow and fish to die. “When I build you a pond it will be done correctly and filtered properly,” he says.Chuck, General Manager Isabel Crisp, and the entire staff are highly

trained and knowledgeable about maintaining a pond and can even offer advice on the health of a fish. “We do it all. When other pond builders have a

problem, they call us. We know all the problems and the solutions," says Chuck. He is quick to point out that at a first look, it may seem expensive and complicated

setting up a koi pond but he says it is well worth it. “I tell people that you’re building a pond once and you’re only paying for it once but you get to enjoy it for the rest of your life. You reap the benefits all the time. You’re investing in happiness.”

If you listen and look closely you might be one of the fortunate neigh-

bors, as I am, to witness the impressive sights and sounds coming from North Springs Charter High School.  Perhaps you’ll

hear the rich tones coming from the young award winning musicians, ensembles, vocalists, or musical theater.  Or perhaps, you might catch a

glimpse of their dancers, thespians or designers of he many sets that are cre-ated by and for students. Or perhaps you want to support your community, as I do,

by attending the annual large-scale spring theater production, reminding yourself you are sitting in a high school theater despite feeling you are watching a Broadway caliber

performance at The Fox.  As the daughter of a professional classical musician, to know that one of our local high schools places this much importance on the arts, more than excites me.

This acclaimed visual and performing arts magnet school is being noticed by more than just our community, winning attention from around the country and the world. It’s lovely to imagine how it must feel to attend a high school where your passions can be practiced and

lived out daily.  With roughly 1,600 students enrolled, 1,200 are involved in some way in the arts programs at North Springs.  Their course offering is deep in the arts department with courses in  dance, theater, chorus,

orchestra, band, marching band, stage set building, visual arts, and coming in 2016-2017, music technology.  So what exactly makes North Springs the cream of the crop when it comes to the visual and performing

arts?  I’m certain it's the incredibly talented faculty as well as the dedicated students.  In speaking with the seasoned department chair of visual and performing arts, James Landreau, it’s hard not to be infected by his enthusiasm and dedication.  Having a mile-long list of accomplishments and associations he is active in, as well as multiple music  and performing arts degrees, Landreau believes the large handful of alums who have gone on to highlighted musical careers (Broadway, professional musicians) would credit  the faculty’s overwhelming dedication to helping students live out their goals and dreams.  Teachers do this by sharing their personal connections and experiences and show, by example, how to keep music in the forefront of their lives.  How about sitting in class and having a top Broadway actor come in to perform?  Yep, this happened just last week. Actor and choreographer David Rossetti is a dance captain with the

Broadway production of "Annie," recently helping Tony-winner Faith Prince as Miss Hannigan and is currently in rehearsals with 3 new "orphans" getting ready for their Broadway debuts at the end of

July!  This sort of visit seems to be the norm at North Springs. The faculty also carries an impressive  list of accomplishments.  Besides Landreau, Van Craven, Michael Brown, Denise Kent, and Andrea Smith are  among the talented pool of performing

arts instructors.  Craven was a professional pianist prior to working the Allen Hornsby

past 15 years  at NSHS.  Brown was an accomplished saxophonist as well as a member

of punk and ska bands before coming to NSHS 13 years ago, and both Kent and Smith have danced and performed with

the best prior to calling NSHS their career home.  This is a faculty stacked with experience, ready to help students turn their passions

and talents into a career. As for the students, in the short time I sat speaking with Landreau and

the other faculty, I overheard strains from the opera"Carmen" being perfectly executed by a student violinist, a feat even seasoned orchestra members

struggle with.  Many of the students not only participate in groups, troupes, and ensembles at NSHS, but also contribute to Atlanta’s vital music scene in esteemed organizations such as the Rialto Youth Jazz Orchestra, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, Buckhead Youth Orchestra, and Atlanta Youth Symphony.

Both faculty and students are currently working feverishly on making this year’s large spring musical theater performance of "The Wiz" one of their

best yet.  Every aspect of the musical is crafted, practiced, and performed by the students from set design to acting. A full orchestra will be in

the pit!  With performance dates of April 15-17 and 20-21, there is no doubt in my mind every seat in the house will be filled. And they

normally are, because eyes from across the globe have their sights set on who will next rise from the exceptional North

Springs Charter High Schools performing arts pro-gram. Will you be there?  I certainly will.

Our Own Community Theater Deserves ApplauseARTICLE LAURA MILLER | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

PRODUCTIONSStage Door

If you’re a fan of theatre, you should make the trip to Dunwoody and check out a production

by Stage Door Players, a unique theatre com-pany beloved by locals and theatre buffs alike.

Stage Door Players was originally a commu-nity theatre, founded in 1974 by the Dunwoody Woman’s Club as a community improvement project.  After 14 years of performing in differ-ent locations around North Atlanta, the troupe settled at the North DeKalb Cultural Center on Chamblee Dunwoody Road next to the Dunwoody library.

In 2004, Stage Door Players made the transition to a completely professional com-pany under the guidance of director Robert Egizio.  Now employing actors, designers, directors, and other professionals from all over Atlanta, Stage Door not only puts on a full six shows each season but also remains involved with community outreach and hosts other special events throughout the year.

Seasons run from September until August; Stage Door Players has completed two suc-cessful shows so far this season and is in rehearsal for I Hate Hamlet, a comedy about a television-turned-stage actor who is hired to play Hamlet despite the fact that he hates the story.  Hail Mary, a dramedy about a nun gone rogue, is slated for early spring. If you’re a fan of mystery, suspense and classic comedy, The 39 Steps is set for early summer, and Kiss Me Kate, Cole Porter’s classic musical, will end the sea-son, running mid-July through early August. Six shows are planned each season, each running for four weekends, and other events such as the Stage Door Canteen cabaret series and Stage Door Jr., theater for children and families, are scheduled as well.  Egizio begins reading scripts in January for the upcoming season, and by May the season is cemented and the preparation and planning begins.

“I normally look at submissions from local and national playwrites, as well as research what’s new in New York,” Egizio says.  “I try to keep in mind what my audience will respond to when picking a particular show.  There’s a lot of reading, a lot of research, and help from a few trusted individuals.”

After the season is announced, auditions are held.  Atlanta is fondly known as the Hollywood of the South, so there is no short-age of available actors, playwrites, and crew members for hire.

“Atlanta has a very large pro theatre base – you’ll see the same actors at all the local theatres around the city, so we simply tap into the local market,” Egizio explains.  “We invite certain pro actors to addition, but we’re always searching for talent.”

Including talent from the Dunwoody area, Stage Door Players home base.  Egizio can’t think of a better place to call home, for several reasons.  Firstly, their location.  Located close to the intersection of Mt. Vernon and Chamblee Dunwoody Roads, Stage Door Players has no competition from other intown theatres, not to mention their amazing venue.  Secondly, their history.  Stage Door Players has been a beloved Dunwoody landmark for more than 40 years, and the community support is invaluable.

“Our audience is from this area,” says Egizio.  “We found our niche.  There was no reason to move.”

Egizio has been both an actor and chore-ographer for more than 25 years, and he says he loves what he does.

“What drives me?  I’m my own boss. I went from corporate America to doing what I’m passionate about.”  That passion is clear in anyone involved with the company, no mat-ter their role, and is part of what keeps Stage Door Players at the forefront of Atlanta theatre.

Rising Star Records At Groove Studio

There’s a lot to like about the music scene in Atlanta and its sur-rounding suburbs. There’s a diversity of style that’s something

special, and there’s a willingness to collaborate and experiment. And there’s also no dearth of venues for budding performers to test the waters. Atlanta-area native McCall Kimball, who performs under the solo name McCall, is one such artist.

McCall got her musical start as a singer thanks to her love for musical theater, performing in a staging of “The Sound of Music” at the Fox Theatre when she was just 12 years old — though she’d played the guitar for years by that point, working on a full-throated, bluesy delivery of melodic folk-pop tunes that are accessible, intrigu-ing, and show significant promise for a singer still in her teens.

Take McCall’s four-song EP Can’t Keep Waiting, released in 2014 when she was still in the midst of her early high-school years. She’s been working on the songs for a while, and McCall says that they reflect a younger songwriter still finding her musical footing.

“I’m proud of the project, but all the songs were written when I was 14 years old,” say McCall. “Since then, I’ve been working on my guitar skill with Eric Stallings at the Groove Studio, as well as taking voice, performance, and songwriting workshops, so I think people will be able to hear a more mature, well-developed sound in comparison to Can’t Keep Waiting.”

Since those tunes were record, McCall’s been working on pushing things in a more creative direction. “Ideally, I would love to bridge the gap between EDM music and ‘organic’ instrumentation. I love playing blues guitar, but I also want to be able to dance with my audience. Think a combination of Alessia Cara, Hozier, and Flume,” she says of her ideal musical world.

Gigs so far have taken her around the metro area, from casual cof-feeshop sets at places like Roswell’s Land of 1000 Hills or Herron’s Coffee & Wine Bar in Acworth, to esteemed yet intimate intern venues like Smith’s Olde Bar or the incomparable Eddie’s Attic — a gold standard for Georgia singer-songwriters. Playing in these vari-ous settings has allowed McCall to connect with likeminded artists from the region, and she says that’s been supremely satisfying.

“The abundance of talent is really what has sur-

prised me the most,” says McCall. “There are so

many crazy talented up-and-coming artists, espe-cially in the Atlanta area, and it’s so inspiring to be surrounded by that level

of musical ability. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to co-write and per-form with some amazing

people this past year.”McCall ’s voice shines most when she’s in front of a crowd,

sets down her guitar and claps a simple rhythm — as the audi-ence claps along, McCall belts out truly soulful tunes in an uncluttered, affecting way. Simplicity’s a great way to connect with an audience, after all.

February saw a number of area shows as well as a jaunt up to New York for a gig at the nightclub The Cutting Room, and there’s more audience connections coming up.

“Well, it’s shaping up to be a busy year, which I’m super excited about!” says McCall. “I’m releasing three singles this summer, as well as adding a ton of shows to the roster.” With shows booked through the summer, she aims to play at least weekly, if not more frequently. McCall’s stepping onto stages further afield, with gigs in Athens, Atlanta, Dallas and more. Make your way to Milledgeville’s Gringo’s, for instance, on Friday, April 8, and you won’t find McCall celebrating simply another solid set in front of a crowd—that’s also the night she’ll celebrate her 18th birthday.

along with  a specific protocol of procedures  for passing the blessed

offerings on to other members of the party. Drumbeats declare the end of the

ceremony and the assistant to the priest, in full regalia, invites guests to a sip of sake. This is the daily scene at the Shinto-Buddhist shrine

resting atop a long series of stone steps on Mt. Haguro-san, where you can visit while touring the northern parts of Japan.

With Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka being the more familiar tourist destinations in the country, the northerly regions afford a unique

travel experience, far-removed from the fast-paced fancy cars and lit-up signboards synonymous with city life depicted in movies and shows.  There are many ways to explore the Land of the Rising Sun, authen-

tic among them being a journey with Walk Japan, hiking and trekking through smaller villages and towns, indulging in the beautiful and iconic

scenery of the Tohoku region, wandering along the rugged Sea of Japan coast and all the while, enjoying encounters of the friendly kind. The Japanese are

thrilled when foreigners visit to learn about their culture and lifestyle, and take great pride in sharing their home and country with others. English is not very widely spoken

Much of Japan is moun-tainous and hilly, and most areas made accessible with an intricate web of walkways, stairs, trails and more. Coastal areas like Matsushima and the island of Sado-ga-shima are accessed through the waterways – jetfoil and ferry being common modes of trans-port. You will be inspired by some of the greatest scenery to be found in Japan including this, one of the classic Three Views of Japan – the pine-clad islands of Matsushima are a delight. The bustling port brings in visitors and tourists alike.

Sado-ga-shima, on the other hand, once a place of exile for ene-mies of the land, today gives guests the opportunity to enjoy quiet coastal life and local delicacies as well as a chance to understand its past

glory when it was a booming gold mining town. The crested ibis, once found here in abundance, is now no more a common sight but locals hold

it in high esteem, and its likeness is seen on products in the area. Another aspect to the tourism in these areas is the historic rele-vance of local sites. Hiraizumi, Japan’s latest UNESCO world heri-

tage site, featuring the Chuson-ji and Motsu-ji temples, provides an inkling of the area’s past splendor, once considered to rival that of

Kyoto. Motsu-ji has been restored to its 12th century grandeur and Chuson-ji includes the Golden Hall - one of the most elaborately

decorated Buddhist structures in Japan. The gardens here are simply spectacular, and the chrysanthemum festival is a must-visit.

Traditional inns, called ryokans, are a great way to experience Japanese culture. Upon entering your room, a desk and floor-level

chair sitting on a series of mats covering the floor greet you. Closet space along the walls of the room hold all the furniture required to

create the space you want. When at dinner, staff put out a bed for you to sleep in – this is the Japanese style of space-saving furniture.

Casual robes known as yukatas are provided at most inns, espe-cially those that offer a thermal hot spring bath or onsen. They

are colorful, patterned and tied together with a belt, sometimes even featuring a jacket that goes over. It is acceptable to stroll

around the premises in this outfit, whether dining at the restau-rant or heading for a bath. The onsens are public bathhouses and

the relaxing hot water baths here are said to have healing powers because of their mineral-rich composition.

Although sushi, sashimi and many other Japanese dishes have become staples in America, regional Japanese cuisine is strongly

influenced by seasonal ingredients including many pickled vegetables, raw and broth-cooked meats and seafood. Red

bean snacks and desserts are commonly found, and are a favorite. A formal dinner spread usually consists

of multiple courses, with each course offering an array of bite-sized to personal-size portions.

You will love eating and walking your way through Northern Japan!

Giving Back

As the official sponsor of birthdays, the American Cancer Society is proud to say that nearly 14 million cancer survi-

vors are celebrating their special day again this year. And, here in Atlanta, we will be honoring local survivors, philanthropists and volunteers at the 2016 Hope Ball on April 30. Lifestyle Publications is proud to serve as media sponsor for this evening of stories, fel-lowship and hope, along with event chair sponsor Delta Airlines. But, it’s the people here on the ground in Buckhead that are making admirable strides in education and research with their support and generous fundraising.

Frank Argenbright is chairman and CEO at SecurAmerica in Buckhead and is a breast cancer survivor, serving on the Board of Ambassadors for the American Cancer Society. “I am honored to be working for such a worthy cause. And as a cancer survivor, I want to do whatever it takes to help raise as much money as we can for cancer research. The more research, the more lives we can save,” says Argenbright, who lives with his wife, Kathy, and their children, Hunter and Blythe, on Brookhaven Drive.

The ACS Board of Ambassadors is an elite group of high-level executives and philanthropists who have pledged to lead and finan-cially support ACS distinguished events like The Hope Ball.

Argenbright and his fellow Ambassadors  will support hon-oree, Buckhead resident Jeff Wigbels, a stage-four, non-smokers lung cancer survivor.  “His story is remarkable and incredibly moving and inspirational. His tireless support for cancer research and treatment should lift us all to do whatever we can to ensure we eradicate this disease,” notes Argenbright. (Readers may remember our story on Jeff in the January 2015 issue and will become reacquainted with him as we bring you more details on the Hope Ball  next month.)

Frank A. Argenbright, Jr. was raised in Madison, Florida, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Florida State University. He was previously in the Army Reserves, earn-ing the rank of Captain.  He graduated in 1991 from the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School. Argenbright heads SecurAmerica, a rapidly growing security com-pany that provides innovative contract security service solutions.

Today, he is focused on SecurAmerica, which he started in 2005 as a sister company to AirServ. A famously hard worker who wakes

up at 3:30 a.m., checks his first voicemail by 4 a.m., and is still leav-ing voicemails at midnight, Argenbright is also a leader who cares deeply about his employees.

This work ethic, dedication to clients and employees, and under-standing of the security sector accounts form Frank Argenbright's success. The many friends, employees, clients and investors who know him best and longest know the quality of the man and his work. Every year, Argenbright and his wife of 36 years gather with his high school friends from his high school class for a reunion, a reminder of his humble roots and the impor-tance of loyalty.

Next month, they will join us in honoring Jeff Wigbels, while boosting the work of the American Cancer Society at The Hope Ball. Why not join us? Sponsorship oppor-tunities are still available and a ticket give-away is happening all month on our website.

When Medical Docs Turn to

ChiropractorsARTICLE MARY WELCH | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Healthy Lifestyle

Not long ago, the medical, chiropractic and insurance industries were at odds and now two of the three are on the same page

and have great respect for each other. Increasingly chiropractor’s waiting rooms are full of medical doctors and nurses all of whom are embracing this alternative option — and thankful for the chiro-practic treatment.

“One of the basic premises of chiropractic is living a healthy life,” says Dr. Eric Tabano of The Joint in Brookhaven.  “Years ago the chiropractic community advocated many of the nutritional and life-style practices that are being adopted today. We believe in a holistic, organic and commitment approach to health and wellness.”

In fact, at the Chastain Square office, The Joint welcomes Dr. Boyd Igbo, MD, DC who is practicing chiropractic medicine a few days a week at the north Buckhead location. Dr. Boyd is a second generation MD who furthered his medical education and is also a doctor of chiropractic (DC).  Dr. Boyd still manages his father's medical practice remotely, but hopes to make The Joint his full time medical home as a DC.

“Dr. Boyd and the entire staff here care about our patients and doing the right thing. That’s why we offer personalized treatment plans with a

focus on pain relief and ongoing wellness,” says Dr. Brad Fraser, who heads the Buckhead location.  “Of course, if you put your back out playing golf, falling or just living life, you’ll need more concentrated treatments but it shouldn’t stop there. Our ongoing well-ness care is what allows Americans of all ages to live a healthy and active life symptom-free or pain-free. Chiropractic treatments should be part of everyone’s everyday lifestyle.”

Dr. Fraser understands the benefits of regular chiropractic care. A former professional hockey player he would definitely still be feeling the falls on the ice and the hard hits a lot more without chiropractic care. “It really allows the body to work the way it is supposed to — heal itself,” he says. “I’m currently working with a World Class ranked Olympic hopeful and if he makes the Olympic team, I’ll accompany him to Rio de Janeiro to ensure he’s at peak form.”

Dr. Tabano, who heads the Brookhaven location, agrees that ath-letes of all ages should have regular chiropractic visits. “I treat two starters on the Atlanta Falcons team and The Joint clinics in Atlanta

are the official chiropractors for our soccer team, the Atlanta Silverbacks. But small children, especially young athletes, benefit from our services because we can help with their injuries and help prevent them from worsening as they grow until adults where it can become chronic.”

And, while you’ll see medical doctors seek-ing relief from a chiropractor, many insurance companies still do not cover the visit.

But, don’t worry because The Joint Chiropractic provides the best service while offering a patient-first approach — even when it comes to finances. The Joint has more than 280 clinics around the coun-

try, including 23 in metro Atlanta, where a person can walk in and get the afford-

able needed treatment. The Joint accepts a variety of payment plans and even

has affordable member-ship and package plans.

As for insurance, it doesn’t accept any and is, in fact, the largest provider of non-in-surance, private pay chiropractic healthy in the country. For instance, after an

initial visit, exam and adjustment, a patient

can opt for the Premium Wellness plan where for

$49 a month they can get up to four visits per month (six

month agreement required). The same wellness plan, minus the six-

month commitment, costs $59; a single visit is $29. Family plans are available.

Both chiropractors are quick to point out that they enjoy being a part of the Buckhead and Brookhaven communities are anxious to help with any chiropractic need — even at night or on the weekends.

The impact the prestigious German automaker Porsche has made on

Georgia's capital has been tremendous within the last year. Beginning with the erection of Hapeville’s Porsche Driving Experience and headquarters in May of 2015, the grand opening of the jaw-dropping Jim Ellis Porsche Dealership on December 3 soon followed, further planting the flag bearing the automaker's signature stallion and crest on Atlanta’s grounds.

Located virtually on the city’s I-285 perimeter at 4006 Carver Drive, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, this space-age, multi-level, 44,000-square-foot site boasts a curvaceous exterior maintaining Porsche’s avant-garde architectural approach like their world-renowned Stuttgart, Germany, museum. Once inside, customers are exposed to extraordinary amenities geared to have them leave enlightened, fulfilled, refreshed, and ideally in a glistening Porsche to call their own. From conducting business on Carrara Marble countertops, to providing iPad stations, a signature

Customer Design Center, an onsite Golf Simulator complete with house clubs, a video wall, and a café pouring Starbucks coffee, these are just a few features adorn-ing the Perimeter’s 18-car showroom.

“We’ve grown along with metro Atlanta and our Porsche customers over the past 33 years,” says  Rodney Woods, vice president at Jim Ellis Automotive Group. “When we opened our new state-of-the-art Porsche dealership in December, it was the perfect time to showcase our new name of Porsche Atlanta Perimeter to reflect our growth in the Atlanta community. Even though we have a new name and a new dealership, we still provide the level of customer experience that our clients have come to expect from the Jim Ellis family.”

Addressing the dealership’s ambitions for 2016, the team is  excited to debut the all-new 911 in the spring, the new 718 Cayman and Boxster in the summer, and punctuating the year's end with an excla-mation mark by launching the redesigned Panamera. Porsche’s successful answer to

the booming luxury compact SUV seg-ment—the Macan—also has two new ver-sions set to launch this year; the Jim Ellis Family expects it to replace the Cayenne as the most popular model on the floor. Ultimately, topping 1,000 new Porsche sales and 1,100 pre-owned Porsche sales are both very realistic goals.

The Jim Ellis Automotive Group main-tains its commitment to invest in the city of Atlanta, and believes driving one of Porsche’s fine-crafted vessels of its’ Porsche Atlanta Perimeter is the optimal way to explore it.

Parting Thoughts

WORDS MOLLY S. COLLINS

Growing up, my parents never played the top 40 station as we drove to and fro in our iconic blue mini van. My dad strictly played “80s on 8” and “70s on 7” while my mom played the sinful sounds of Motown and Jill Scott. So, I've never have the same taste for popular

music as my peers. When friends would ask me to make a playlist for a party, I would fill it with The Ramones, The Supremes, Television and Paul Simon, rather than the usual Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande. Even though my music would often be shut down within the third or fourth song, it felt so good to look up and see a few friends sway to the sounds of the past in appreciation. This playlist was made for anyone who needs to be reawakened via my favorite bands, and see the world through a new set of barre chords.

<<< The writer, in her dorm room at Albion College

1. "CLOSE TO ME" - THE CURE

The Cure is one of my favorite bands out of the 80s, embodying two things I think that era is known for: crazy hair, and, sometimes, overly emotional songs. With vinyl records making a song comeback, I believe that this band is a quintessential component on any playlist.

If you like this song, you'll also like “Sunday Morning” by No Doubt.

2. "IS THIS HOW YOU FEEL?" - THE PREATURES

The Preatures is a 5-piece Aussie band that continues to impress me as I listen to their upbeat and head-bopping album. Released last year, this album has a 70s rock element to it, and makes me want to roll down all the windows and blast it while driving down the highway on a bright summer's day. Great song. Great band. Great everything.

If you like this song, you'll like “Don't Save Me” by Haim.

3. "MESSED UP KIDS" - JAKE BUGG

One of my favorite artists of all time, Jake Bugg sounds, to me, like the product of Paul McCartney and Michael Kiwanuka. Mixing McCartney’s smooth vocals, and Kiwanuka’s soulful acoustics, every song on Bugg’s new album (appropriately named Shangri La)  is utter perfection and tells a story that everyone should listen too.

If you like this song, you'll like “Sixteen” by Bombay Bicycle Club.

4. "DRIVE" - OH WONDER

I heard of Oh Wonder while looking for songs to listen to while shut up in the library during finals week, and I can solidly say that their soothing synchronized vocals are the single most important attribute for my success over the hellish week. Oh Wonder’s debut album consists of every aspect one needs to have a great band: meaningful lyrics, great vocals and simple instrumentation.

If you like this song, then you’ll like “I’ll Try Anything Once” by Julian Casablancas.

5. "FUNN" - CASH+DAVID

Cash+David is made up of two wildly talented artists who mix both of their electronic and indie backgrounds to make one extremely entertain-ing record. This song, along with others, has stellar guitar and fun beats that, no matter who the listener, make you want to tap your foot.

If you like this song, then you’ll like “Take My Picture” by Filter.

6. "FALLOUT" - CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN

No playlist would be complete without a song by one of the best up-and-coming bands of 2016, Catfish and the Bottlemen. I've listened to this album on every medium I can get my hands on, and everytime I hear it I get knots in my stomach because that's how good it is. Mixing a little bit of punk, rock, alternative and everything in between, this band never ceases to amaze me.

If you like this song, then you’ll like “If You Wanna” by The Vaccines.

7. "LA VERITE" - FRANCOIS & THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Lately, I've been on a bit of a french pop craze. Francois & The Atlas Mountains have great upbeat songs that you don't mind not understand-ing because you're too busy being entranced by the melodic piano and sinful hodge podge percussion instruments.

If you like this song, you’ll like “Tous Les Memes” by Stromae.

8. "OPEN HOUSE" - BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB

If you ever find yourself in an adventurous mood, listen to any of Bombay Bicycle Club’s albums and let the wanderlust wash over you as you listen to the musical stylings of Britain's finest.

If you like this song, you’ll like “Archie, Marry Me” by Alvvays.
