Christmas day at sea & New Year’s Eve
in Barbados
Christmas day at sea, Madeira for New Year’s
Eve & fire works!
Christmas day at sea & New Year’s Eve
in Hamburg
New Year’s Eve party in Madeira!
Christmas time is my favourite time to cruise and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is one of my favourite cruise lines.
Alan and I first cruised on board the Black Watch for Christmas in 1997 and soon realised that it was definitely for us. We did our Christmas shopping early and exchanged gifts with loved ones which meant we had a few days of relaxation before the big day which had been unheard of in my house up until then! We enjoyed a Christmas Eve party
followed by a fantastic Christmas Day.
I remember meeting for coffee and mince pies in the morning, having a delicious turkey lunch followed by a sleep up on deck in the sun. Best of all no cooking, no standing in the long queues in my local super market, no
Christmas Eve gift shopping, no discovering on Christmas Day that I forgot to buy gravy granules or double cream, no washing up and no family arguments!! Everything had been thought of and catered for - all we had to do was turn up.
Fred Olsen always come up with different ways to entertain us and in such a personal way - we have had a couple of pantos (oh no we haven't - sorry I just had to say that) and a wonderful Christmas Carol performance by the restaurant crew who stopped serving on Christmas Day and broke into song, that had many people passengers reaching for tissues. And then it just gets better with the outstanding New Years Eve gala ball. Dinner is a real highlight.
We then enjoyed an amazing firework display in either Tenerife or Madeira with dancing up on deck until the very early hours of New Years Day.
We have often looked at the other ships around us and we always seem to be having the most fun - I don't know quite how Fred Olsen do it but they just do. Their hardware may not be as up to date as many of their competitors but when they say 'its all about the people' it really is.

On selected Fred Olsen cruises they offer a range of activities and entertainment that give something more to your cruise holiday experience, making it even more enjoyable. Dip in and out whenever the mood takes you. They have a range of Vistas speakers
who can’t wait to share their passion with you, and make your cruise really memorable.

FJORDS & COASTAL TOWNS OF NORWAY
The first thing you notice when you step onboard The Balmoral is the happy smiley crew members who are there to greet you! I have cruised onboard The Balmoral twice, one of which was a mini cruise, but it doesn't matter the duration of the cruise, all the staff are happy to assist and put in
100% into making your cruise an enjoyable one.
One of the cruises I went on was with my family which included two children aged 8 and 6. The cabin we had certainly was large enough to sleep 4, and my children liked receiving their chocolate on their pillow every night! I found the Balmoral a light and airy ship, and even though she is the largest ship amongst the Fred Olsen fleet there were enough public areas to go to, to enjoy a quiet drink or read of a book without it feeling overcrowded.
The food was amazing, and again nothing was too much trouble to cater for passengers needs, and if you don't wish to dine in the main restaurant, then the Palms Cafe turns into a smart but casual buffet restaurant in the evening.
The entertainment onboard was a mixture of dancing, singing and laughter! I especially enjoyed International evening where the crew performed dancing or singing from their country.

Sailing from Dover
Scenic CruisingThe Baltic region is one of the most dynamic in the world with culture-rich cities and awe-inspiring architecture. A Baltic cruise could see you taking a tour of historic St. Petersburg, wandering around beautiful Copenhagen or gazing at the beauty of the Old Town in Tallinn. You may also opt for a cruise visiting the less well-known, but equally scenic ports of Bergen, where narrow streets lead away from the waterfront
and Flam with its spectacular setting on the Norway Fjords. With our Baltic cruise departing from Dover, you can relax into your holiday straight way and immerse yourself in these amazing sights. Another cruise itinerary takes in the Norwegian fjords. With so much variety in the architecture and history across this region, a Baltic cruise really makes for an inspiring and cultural experience.

Mini CruiseHighlights of the Lowlands
Around Italy & Spain

Wine CruiseBordeaux & Rioja
Jilly Goolden presented television’s top rated food and drink series, 'Food & Drink', for two decades, becoming nationally famous as the most widely-known wine expert in Britain. Her renowned tastebuds currently reign on the on-going ITV series, 'Britain’s Best Dish'.
Having presented two highly successful television series on antiques for BBC1, 'The Great Antiques Hunt' and 'Going, Going, Gone', Jilly presented BBC1’s 'Holiday' and 'Holiday - You Call the Shots' programmes, where she gained a new reputation as a bit of a daredevil. Programmes such as Channel 4’s 'Extreme Health' followed, where she climbed mountains, dangled over a deep gorge and slept on a precipice.
A stint in the jungle for ITV’s ratings-blockbuster 'I’m A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!' came next, and thanks to Jilly, a wide number of people now know exactly which wine to drink with bush tucker!
This 'Highlights of the Lowlands' cruise takes you to Normandy, Bruges and Amsterdam.
After leaving Dover the first stop is Le Havre. Obliterated by World War II bombing raids, it was rebuilt by Belgian architect Auguste Perret who had a penchant for concrete. Although not the most beautiful city in the world, Le Havre is still worth exploring, especially the Malraux fine-arts museum. It is also the perfect location from which to explore Paris and the stunning Normandy countryside.
Your cruise ship then heads to Zeebrugge with the option of visiting medieval Bruges. Picturesque markets, canals and ancient buildings combine to make this one of the most popular cities in Belgium. The beach resort of Ostende is also close at hand, as are the battlefields of WWII and the village of Passchendaele. The final stop is Amsterdam, home of stunning canals, bikes, beautiful parks, world-class galleries, tulips and windmills. Spending the day in the company of art-world greats such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Vermeer is a real treat. But don’t forget to indulge in Amsterdam’s famous café culture.
This cruise around Italy and Spain takes in some the most iconic and beautiful sights of these countries. Romantic cities such as Florence, Pisa, Rome and Naples await.
Cruising from Dover, the first port of call on this cruise holiday is Malaga. This lively city is the birthplace of Picasso, the home of great beaches, historical buildings and delicious tapas.
The gateway to Tuscany, Livorno is the perfect base from which to explore Florence and Pisa. Likewise, the next stop, Civitavecchia, gives the opportunity to visit Rome, home to Vatican City, St Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel, Colosseum, Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain.
With Vesuvius as its backdrop, Naples is a classic city that’s bold and enticing in equal measures. With the option of visiting Pompeii, the Isle of Capris or Sorrento, it will be tough deciding which to choose. The cruise then heads for Cagliari before making its way to Melilla and finally Gibraltar.

This Venice and Dubrovnik cruise journeys to Spain, Malta, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Sicily and Spanish Morocco.
After leaving Dover, your cruise ship stops at Malaga before making her way to Malta. Valetta packs a punch with its Grand Harbour, St John’s Co-Cathedral, gardens and atmospheric narrow streets.
Then the cruise moves on to Split, Croatia’s largest city. Split is a living museum to Roman architecture. Here you can visit Diocletian’s Palace, or further afield is Krka National Park with its stunning waterfalls.
The next stop is Venice. St Mark’s Square, gondolas, canals, palaces and churches all congregate on a network of 116 islands.
After stops at Koper, Slovenia and Ancona in Italy, this cruise reaches Dubrovnik. City walls that protect the narrow streets, baroque buildings, monasteries and museums surround this ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. This cruise then makes its way to Corfu and Catania before reaching its final destination, Melilla.
As a single, new to cruising customer I was very apprehensive to step foot on my first cruise, after much deliberation and talking to different people I decided to book one.
From the moment I embarked with ease at Southampton to dining in the Thistle restaurant, I was overwhelmed with the friendliness I received, not only by the staff on board but from other passengers as well.
I was extremely touched by the number of passengers who have travelled with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines before; this certainly did reassure me that I had picked an excellent cruise line.
As an independent person who enjoys their own company, I was able to enjoy a drink or two with fantastic views in the observatory lounge. I could not fault the
detailed excursions and I participated in to the daily activities that were offered to me in the Coral Club.
I really would not hesitate in recommending the Braemar as the ship is mid-sized with lots of places to enjoy like the outdoor swimming pools, pool bars and the Lido bar, to name but a few.KAYLEY

Mini Cruises Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is my favourite cruise line. When I step on board I feel like I have just walked through my front door and I want to put on my slippers and sit in a cosy lounge with a cup of tea. Many of the staff greet me like long lost friends and they seem to remember better than I do have how many times I have been on board.
When I walk into the restaurant they shake my hand and greet me by name (I think they like my name as they probably find it quite funny - Hello Ms Dance!) I suffered with some food allergies a few years ago and I still get asked would I like wheat free bread or special meals. When I go to the bar they ask me would a I like my usual drink - I constantly wonder with so many passengers how do they remember so much about me.
I love the public rooms and in particular The Observatory which has a great atmosphere for a pre dinner drink. Also the Lido Lounge which is especially good after dinner as there is usually a singer and I find the atmosphere very relaxing. The cabins are spacious and comfortable. If you travel in suites you will generally find them bigger than the equivalent suite on a modern ship. In the top suites you get bath robes, a fully stocked bar, an allowance towards dry cleaning and free shuttle tickets in the ports.
One of my real passions is the bingo because the crew make it so much fun - they don't just call the numbers but they make up rhymes and make jokes all the time. The quiz is usually very funny, competitive and well worth attending.
All in all if you haven't tried Fred Olsen Cruise Lines so far then I would highly recommend it.

Travel to the NorthPalaces of Stockholm & St. Petersburg
Copenhagen is the first port of call. Famous for the Tivoli Gardens and the Little Mermaid, it’s a city of historic canals, cobbled squares, Royal ancestry (including a castle and palace) and of course, ‘probably the best lager in the world’.
The cruise then moves on to Helsinki, an exciting and vibrant city full of Art Nouveau buildings, museums and cafés that are well worth exploring, as is the surrounding coastal area.
Next is an overnight stop at St Petersburg. This very ‘un-Russian’ city has a distinct European flavour with its network of canals and baroque and neoclassical architecture. From palaces and Cathedrals to fountains and the Hermitage, it will be difficult to know where to start.
Heading to Estonia, your next port of call is Tallinn. Enchanting, medieval and modern, the World Heritage Listed Old Town has lots to explore before this cruise moves on to Sweden. The first stop is Nynashamn from where you can visit the archipelago city of Stockholm, before heading off to your final port, scenic Kristansand.

Imagine standing on deck as you elegantly cruise through sparkling clear waters, surrounded on both sides by towering hills. Every now and then, you spot a cluster of red, wood clad houses, perched on a steep incline, or clinging to the waters edge. Welcome to the Norwegian Fjords.
There is nothing quite like exploring the almost lunar-like landscape of Iceland. This is a country unlike any other in the world. Reykjavik is renowned for good restaurants and great hospitality. Away from the city, the sights and experiences on offer are absolutely and uniquely Icelandic. Be amazed by hot springs bursting to geysers spurting water high into the air and see the impact of subterranean volcanic activity on this constantly changing island.
The cities that sit on the shores of the Baltic Sea have been vital stops on the trade route east for centuries. This has given each of them an individual flavour that's very inviting.

As a frequent cruiser I have travelled with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines many times and each time it just gets better.
Travelling with my 3yr old daughter she finds everything very exciting. The Fred Olsen staff couldn't be more attentive and friendly. They make a real fuss of my daughter which makes her feel very special and of course makes things easier for me!
Although Fred Olsen Cruise Lines do not usually have young children onboard when they do everyone including the fellow guests are extremely friendly and accommodating especially when my daughter takes over the dance floor!
Onboard the Black Watch the daily activities included bingo and dolphin racing which we took part in most days whilst at sea. We visited the library for a look round and it was full of all different kinds of books and was always very peaceful each time we walked past. The Lido bar was one of my favourite bars, the atmosphere with live singers and colourful cocktails was always a fabulous way to end a great day.

Leixoes is perfectly placed as a base from which to explore Oporto, home to the famous Port wine. The city is made up from narrow medieval alleyways, baroque churches and picturesque squares. Not far away are the Bussaco Forest and Gardens and the vineyards of the Douro River Valley.
The next port of call is Vigo, and affords you the opportunity to visit Santiago de Compostella before moving on to La Coruna. Although there may be few historic monuments (other than the Tower of Hercules and the San Anton Castle), the stunning location and sophisticated ambience create a welcoming city.
After stopping at Aviles, the cruise moves on to Getxo for Bilbao. Located in Spain’s Basque region, Bilbao is not only home to some world-famous architectural sights such as the Guggenheim Museum and Euskalduna Palace, it is also a gastronomical paradise with many fine restaurants where you can sample the Basque cuisine and Rioja wine.
Your final port of call is Le Havre from where you can explore Normandy and visit the house of Claude Monet. This brings this world heritage cruise to an end.

This cruise to Turkey and Greece visits ancient lands and architectural wonders. Calling at Portugal, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece, Malta and Gibraltar.
After setting sail from Dover, the cruise heads for Lisbon in Portugal before making its way to Tunisia. Tunis is a vibrant but laid back city. The medina is its historic heart with a network of alleys, souks and 8th century Zeytouna Mosque, a direct contrast to the palm trees and café terraces of the new town. Close by are the ruins of Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, quite possibly Tunisia’s most beautiful village.
Your cruise ship then makes its way to Turkey calling at Izmir before reaching Istanbul. Historic buildings rub shoulders with art galleries, museums, restaurants and boutiques. With the opportunity to visit Topkapi Palace or cruise the Bosphorus, there’s plenty to do.
After calling at Canakkale and Volos, the cruise heads for Greece’s main port of Piraeus, which has practically melded with Athens. The Acropolis, Parthenon, Cape Sounion, Corinth and Delphi make this stop one of the most varied and interesting.
Your cruise ship then makes her way to Kalamata, Itea and Corfu before reaching Malta. Valletta is known for its fortifications, architectural appeal and Grand Harbour and offers an insight into island life. The final destination on this Turkey and Greece cruise is Gibraltar before heading back to Dover.

We would like to introduce our team to you as we have had some new members join us and our customers often say its nice to put a face to a voice!
We sometimes get asked 'why shouldn't we book with the cruise line direct rather than with OWT since the fares are often the same?'
We can offer discounts with Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines again so IT IS CHEAPER TO BOOK WITH US THAN DIRECT! We can't print our prices, so please call us. We are independent and so we honestly advise you rather than persuading you to book something less suitable because of financial incentives. But I think the most important reason has to be because we try to treat our customers how we would like to be treated ourselves - like people. You are NOT a file reference or a customer number. Some travellers have booked directly with the cruise lines and found that the service that they receive is poor. In some cases cruise passengers have asked us for advice when a cruise line consultant has been unhelpful and we are only too happy to step in if we can. All of our staff are experts. We offer an easy booking process and are open seven days a week. We are ABTA bonded for your protection and have nearly 30 years experience in cruising.
