Rachel and fourteen others ladies are going to Brazil with Great Cities Missions next Friday, September 30, for 11 days to put on a Ladies Conference. Fifty missionary women that serve from all over South America will come to a beautiful location to be ministered to by this group of women. I am very proud of Rachel and these women that go to serve and fill the spiritual hearts of these missionary servants. It is a wonderful ministry that the Lord is blessing abundantly. Please take a moment to meet someone new today! We are glad that you have joined us to worship the King of kings and the Lord of all lords! There is no other Name given under heaven by which we can be saved. His Name is Jesus, Immanuel, and He is here with us today. Worship Him in spirit and in truth. Small Group Info In 2 Samuel chapter 1, David praises his best friend, Jonathan, by saying that the love he has for him is even better than the love of women. Whoa! A best friendship that is even better than that? Sometimes we think (especially as teenagers) that the best relationship we can have is with an opposite gender person. I hope our small groups this semester can show our young men they need brothers and our young ladies they need sisters. These relationships are such a great gift from God. Ladies will meet at Naomi’s new home around the corner from church. Guys will meet at Kyle/ Amyee’s. Both groups will meet from 6-8 pm and will provide dinner. We ask capable students to bring a couple dollars to help offset cost. Do not make this a burden. If money is tight at home, please don’t feel bad about sending your child to small group and not having cash. Think nothing of it! Sarah and I will be providing rides to and from small group as needed. Hopefully this helps some of you who have kids going in different directions in addition to your own small group commitment. We will leave at 6pm from church and return around 8:15. We have 4 seats apiece. Serving Park Avenue

A Beginner's Guide to God (John 17)

Today’s Main Idea—“In” but not “of” the world

Christians must find the balance between isolation and assimilation.

Spiritually beneficial relationships and spiritual disciplines help maintain a healthy balance.

Sermon Notes

Good morning and wel-come to our worship service this morning. Today we will continue

our journey through Jesus’ prayer in John 17 in the series I’m calling, A Beginner’s Guide to God: Who He is and What He Wants. Today we will look at the difficult balance Christians face in being “in” the world but not “of” the world.

Our marriage seminar, What God Has Joined, will conclude this Wednesday evening. Basil will outline PA’s vision of serving and

We are honored to have you with us this morning. A warm welcome to all our members — how good and pleasant it is for us to worship together! And a special welcome to our guests! Please take a few

minutes to visit with us after services. Stop by the welcome centers in the main hallways for more information and a free gift from us. Let us know how we can serve you.

equipping families and we will also address some of the questions that have been submitted throughout the month. Tommy Todd will conclude with a blessing and challenge for all of us to honor God in all our relationships.

Park Avenue has a couple of opportunities to serve our community as we participate in the Public Servants Luncheon on Thursday, September 29 and in the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, October 1. If you would like to help with either of these community events, please indicate on today’s communication card.

Earlier this year we sent out a letter to the membership at Park Avenue concerning our renewed commitment to provide teaching and resources to enhance and strengthen marriages and families. One action we have recently taken is to conduct a four week seminar on Wednes-day evenings, What God Has Joined, to remind us of the battle families face in a changing culture, to review what the Bible says about marriage and sexuality, to challenge all of our members to stay true to the covenant of

marriage, and to offer some practical advice and encouragement for making marriages all that God intended them to be. If you missed any or all of these sessions they are available to listen to through our website or mobile app. As we continue to offer resources to strengthen marriages we are devoting our October to December Sunday morning adult classes to such an end. We strongly encourage everyone to make the commitment to be here on Sunday mornings at 9 am for these times of instruction, encouragement, and training. We strongly believe that Godly marriages are the result of an intentional effort by both spouses to grow into the marriage partner they have been called to be.
