Pennsylvania’s Geographic Regions
• There are 5 major geographic regions in Pennsylvania.
ATLANTIC COASTAL PLAIN
• Area of flat land along the southeastern corner of PA
• Includes Philadelphia
• Elevation ranges from sea level to 26ft above sea level
The Piedmont
• Area of rolling hills
• Elevation reaches a maximum of 600ft above sea level
• Includes Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, and York
Ridge and Valley
• Home to the Appalachian Mountains
• Includes several specific ridges and valleys
Blue Mountain
• Chambersburg to New Jersey border south of Stroudsburg

Tuscarora
• Parallels the Blue Mountain
Jack’s Mountain
• West of Harrisburg toward Bloomsburg
Great Valley
• Made up of Cumberland Valley, Lebanon Valley, Lehigh Valley
• Allegheny Mountains stretch from Maryland border north and east to Lock Haven
• Mt. Davis is the highest Mountain in PA at 3, 213 feet
Allegheny Plateau
• Covers about 60% of Pennsylvania
• Elevations range from 700 feet to 2,500 feet
• Pocono Mountains in Northeastern PA are part of this region

• Narrow, stretching only 4 miles in width
• Includes Erie
