The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest volunteer-driven organization devoted to curing lymphoma and leukemia. Almost 30,000 schools and more than 14 million students nationwide have joined the effort, which provides money for research into these blood cancers. The program has generated more than $261 million since its beginning in 1994.

During a three-week period in February or March, students at all grade levels ask for contributions of pennies or other coins. The society provides lesson plans that emphasize service learning and character formation for participants. It also gives out instructional videos and collection boxes for individuals and classes. The society also offers resources for school-wide assemblies.

The top-performing schools in each area win sports equipment and electronics. At individual schools, the class that brings in the most funds enjoys a pizza party.
