The Accelerated Program is designed for students who have earned a non-nursing baccalaureate degree and are drawn to the nursing profession through advanced study at Penn Nursing.

Students enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Accelerated Program are ambitious, inquisitive, and diverse. They are graduates of elite universities and have earned degrees in a wide range of disciplines. They are civil engineers. They are lawyers. They are social workers.

As the only nursing school at an Ivy League university offering multiple degrees, Penn Nursing is consistently ranked as one of the top nursing schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Our students learn from the nation’s leading educators and researchers, gaining real-life nursing experience in a state-of-the-art simulation center and at top-ranked clinical sites.

Penn Nursing graduates are equipped with the expertise that leads them to exciting career opportunities both at home and abroad.

Study Abroad Programs

Botswana, Israel, Honduras, Spain, and Thailand are a few of the countries where Penn Nursing students have the opportunity to study abroad. Nursing students are encouraged to explore a full range of study abroad programs, including clinical practice at a government clinic in Botswana, and psychiatric mental health and community health in India. Through Penn’s Nursing Global Health Affairs Office, students can take advantage of unique opportunities to make a profound difference in maternal and infant care delivery in Haiti, where the infant mortality rate is astound-ingly high. The School of Nursing is committed to fostering strategic partnerships for developing nursing science that effectively addresses local and global challenges to health, including health disparities.

Semester, summer, and independent study opportunities are available. Students have 24-hour worldwide assistance and emergency services through Penn’s affiliation with International SOS.

Center for Global Women’s Health

The Center for Global Women’s Health (CGWH) is a unique interdis-ciplinary collection of faculty and students who are dedicated to making a measurable impact on women’s health issues around the world. Members collaborate on women’s health scholarship, education, and clinical practice.

Social justice is the underlying focus, with research programs designed to promote the well-being of women and girls. Research concentrations are in the following areas:

• Safety from Violence and Harm

• Equity, Empowerment and Advocacy, and

• Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

CGWH research is impacting policy change in areas such as sexual assault examination.

Global Nursing and Health Care Minor

In response to society’s growing needs to address global health threats and challenges, Penn Nursing has designed a specific Global Nursing and Health Care Minor for master‘s and post-master‘s students. Each student selects a geographical area of focus in this four-course concentration, which provides a deep understanding of the core dimensions of global health.

Mentorship Program

The relationship between the mentor and mentee is a rich, mutually rewarding collaboration that supports students throughout their academic and professional careers. All Penn Nursing students have a faculty advisor working closely with them to help develop their skills, nurture their interests, and engage in dialogue about the current developments in the nursing profession.

Simulation Center

The Helene Fuld Pavilion for Innovative Learning is Penn Nursing’s unique, state-of-the-art educational center. This 7,000-square-foot space is equipped with the latest technology. The state-of-the-art interactive mannequins breathe, cry, and respond just like real-life patients. Students gain practical knowledge and experience in a multitude of simulated care settings including home, outpatient, and hospital. In this challenging environment, students safely test their skills, efficiency, and diagnostic abilities.

The internationally renowned faculty represent the greatest minds in nursing research, education, and practice. MSN Options

Whether interested in nurse anesthe-sia, midwifery, pediatric oncology, or healthcare administration, there are 15 specialties to choose from, taught at the highest level by the top nurse educators and clinicians in the country.

Hillman ScholarsProgram in Nursing innovation

This unique BSN-to-PhD program educates the nursing scientist who has a passion for creating innovative solutions to health issues facing vulnerable patients and populations. Students selected for this highly competitive program receive scholarship support.

Students in the accelerated program can choose from a multitude of options to focus their study. Penn Nursing offers 15 master‘s specialties, flexible degree options, and unique joint degrees

with other University of Pennsylvania schools, such as the MSN/MPH and MSN/MBE.
