Eligibility A club team, no restriction on numbers, all of whom shall be 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2017 and to have paid their full membership fee. Competitors will be required to show their YFC membership cards. Failure to produce a card will result in a £5 penalty charge for the individual concerned plus verification on the YFC database prior to being allowed to compete. 2. Procedure The sign is to promote the Rally Day 2018 and is to be erected within the area of the club by no later than 10.00am on Saturday 12th May. Clubs to advise the County Office of the location of their sign by 12 noon on Wednesday 9th May and provide a photograph.

a) The sign must contain the words: PEMBROKESHIRE YFC RALLY, COUNTY SHOWGROUND, 26th MAY 2018 b) The language of the sign to be Welsh, English or bilingual. c) The sign must be made of weather-proof material. d) The size of the sign must be no less than 1metre x 1metre and no more

on a highway or a roadside verge). f) The sign does not have to relate to the Theme of the Rally

NFYFC COOKERY COMPETITION – “Magic And Mystery” (Eliminator for Malvern Autumn Show) Date and Venue to be confirmed Setting up at 7.00pm – be ready to begin cooking at 7.30pm. Eligibility

Teams to consist of three members, one must be 26 years of age or under, one must be 21 years of age or under and one must be 16 years of age or under, on 1 September 2017

PROCEDURE 1. Each team will be required to prepare and display four magical courses with an air of mystery. 2. The menu must include at least one sweet course and one savoury course. Each Course will be required to serve two people. A drink does not count as a course and will not be scored. 3. Teams must ensure each course involves a cooked element, prepared from raw ingredients. (It is advised that smoked salmon and cream cheese is not included.)

Equipment Two gas rings will be allowed per team and these must be provided by the competitors. No other heat is allowed. Electricity is not available. Competitors to provide all their own equipment. All ingredients may be brought to the competition already weighed out and vegetables ready washed.

All other work must be executed on site in the practical session Displays Competitors will be allowed a maximum display space of 90cm (width) X 60cm (depth) X height optional (i.e. no height limit) which to display the courses to their best advantage. Please note these are the EXTERNAL dimensions. If teams use back and/or side boards the whole of the board must be within the dimensions given. Any accessories or drapes used on the outside walls will be included in the overall size limit of the exhibit. The external walls will be taken into account for the overall display marks and so should be neat, tidy and covered to compliment the overall exhibit. Displays which exceed the above dimensions will be disqualified. Teams must: 1. Display a menu card. 2. Display details of recipes. 3. Display a description of how their exhibit fits the theme: “Magic and Mystery”

There are no limitations on the contents of the display. Menu cards, recipes and display accessories (non food items) etc may be brought to the competition ready prepared.

JUNIOR Subject: Exhibit Title: “Witches and Warlocks” The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibit is to be viewed from the front. Competitors own backboard and base boards are allowed, and must be provided by the competitor if required and must adhere to the size limitations. The reverse of these backboards MUST be white, neat and tidy. INTERMEDIATE Subject: Exhibit Title : “The mystery of the magic circle” The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibit is to be viewed from all sides. No backboards are permitted. SENIOR Subject: Exhibit Title: “A mysterious phenomenon of your choice” (Name of phenomenon must be stated with the exhibit.) The maximum display area for each competitor MUST NOT exceed 60cm wide x 60cm deep x optional height (i.e. no limitations to height). Exhibits to be composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories. Exhibit is to be viewed from the front. Competitors own backboard and base boards are allowed, and must be provided by the competitor if required and must adhere to the size limitations. The reverse of these backboards MUST be white, neat and tidy. DISPLAY A work table will be provided close to the display area – approx half a trestle table to be allocated per competitor. Each exhibit will be displayed to their best advantage with the space allocation. All exhibits must be the unaided work of the competitors and must be assembled in the hall. During the period of the competition, competitors must not communicate directly or indirectly with any person other than Judges or Stewards, under penalty of

instant disqualification. No other person, other than the competitors, will be allowed in the competing area. Competitors may use a battery operated glue gun or any other form of adhesive. There will no mains power supply available Any exhibit exceeding the maximum measurements will be disqualified. The measurement will be from the outside edges of the back board or base board (i.e. the thickness of the backboard will be included in the size restrictions). Any accessories or drapes used on the outside of the back board or base board will be included in the overall measurement of the exhibit and should be within the size restrictions. The external side of the back board will be taken into account for the attractiveness of the exhibit marks and so should be covered to compliment the overall exhibit. TIMING Allowance of one hour to include final checks and measurement of the exhibit. Before leaving the competing area, competitors will be given a further 5 minutes to clear and tidy the work site. Competitors may unpack their equipment and plant material/flowers onto the work table before the one hour practical session commences. If floral foam (oasis) is to be used, this may be pre-soaked prior to the competition. New pieces of floral foam (oasis) MUST be used on the day of the competition. Competitors are able to construct and tape their foam (oasis) in position on a board/container/exhibit prior to the one hour practical session if required. Competitors are able to set up their display bay before the one hour practical session commences. An EXHIBIT: Is composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified in a show schedule. Backgrounds, bases, containers, drapes, exhibit titles and mechanics may always be included in an exhibit, unless otherwise stated. More than one placement may always be included, unless otherwise stated. In all exhibits (except still life) natural plant material must predominate. NATURAL PLANT MATERIAL Natural plant material is any vegetable matter It includes fresh, dried, garden, wild, or made-up plant material. It is acceptable to enhance plant material by the application of oil, milk, wax or other similar products. An ACCESSORY Anything other than natural plant material in an exhibit, such as, feathers, shapes (spheres, cones) , shells, stones, wax candles Natural plant material which has been tooled or crafted to resemble non-plant forms, e.g. birds nest, corn dolly, wooden figurine. Accessories may be decorated in any way but greater credit should be given for the use of natural plant material where appropriate. The following are not accessories and may also be used unless prohibited by the show schedule: backgrounds, bases, containers holding plant material, drapes, exhibit titles and mechanics. These may be decorated in any way but greater credit should be given for use of natural plant material where appropriate. REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION Failure to comply with any specific requirements of a class as stated in a show schedule, i.e. the measurements or the components. (Just remember – it is better to aim to be 1xm or 1 inch smaller than the size allowed as the size sated is the MAXIMUM size). Inclusion of artificial plant material (unless specifically allowed by a show schedule) Inclusion of fresh plant material that does not have roots or the cut ends of stems in water or water-retaining material. Exceptions: Air Plants, Cacti, Fruits, Grass Turf, Lichen, Moss, Succulents, Vegetables and long lasting plant material which will remain turgid for the duration of a show. (Definition of turgid – the state of firmness of plant tissue resulting from adequate moisture, causing the plant cells to be fully expanded). NOT ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE DISQUALIFICATION: the term used when an exhibit does not comply with the requirements of the schedule – see NAFAS reasons for disqualification above. The judge will write ‘Not according to schedule’ and the reason.

CLUB EXHIBIT (Royal Welsh Show Eliminator)

Theme: ‘UP ABOVE’ Up to six members (26 years of age or under) No more than four members to stage and prepare displays. The two additional members are only permitted to erect the frame.

Frame to be in position by 8.00 p.m. on Friday, 25th May. No further work to be undertaken. 1 point will be deducted for any club arriving after 8pm; 2 points will be deducted for any club arriving after 8.30pm.

All members must wear white coats.

Space allowed 6’ (1m 82.9cm) high; 6’ (1m 82.9cm) wide; 4’6” (1m 37.1cm) deep – maximum outside measurements. (Please see general rules regarding penalties for displays which do not meet the necessary size specification.) Electricity is available; competitors must bring their own extension lead (1 lead only per club). Participating clubs to be responsible for all labelling, which may be in English only, Welsh only, or bilingual. Club names will be provided after the judging has taken place. All construction to be made by members. NO perishable foods should be used. Competitors are responsible for all items on display. No exhibit to be removed before 4 p.m. No equal placings allowed in overall position in this competition. Please pay special attention to sizes to avoid deduction of marks. Theme: Celebrating the RAF Centenary

Task: To prepare an arrangement to celebrate the RAF Centenary. Members to wear white coats.

Costings: Not to exceed £30 (excluding Foliage). Costings to be displayed.

Display: Competitors are allowed to use accessories but are to supply these themselves. A backboard can be used if the competitor wishes but are to supply these themselves. Work Space: Half a trestle table. Measurements: Size allowed (60cm) wide x (60cm) deep. No Height Restriction

Time: 1 hour plus a further 5 minutes to check that arrangements have not been disturbed during cleaning up operations.

Total 100 marks - to be judged according to the guidelines (outlined below) laid down by the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (N.A.F.A.S.). Adherence to the competition wording. 2. Predominance of plant material over all other components. 3. Plant material that is unblemished, well conditioned and appropriate. 4. Clear interpretation of the title and chosen theme. Plant material should help to interpret the chosen theme without the sole reliance on accessories. 5. Good use of design principles and of the space allowed. The use of balance, scale, line, space, texture, and colour contribute to the total harmony. 6. Tablecloth and bases if used, as well as container and any title, in immaculate condition, suitable to the theme and not dominant in size or colour. 7. Accessories if used that are in harmony with the rest of the exhibit and that are in scale with it and with each other.

16 YEARS OR UNDER Theme: A meal for a Centenary Dinner. Team: Two members (16 years of age or under)

Task: A team of two members to prepare a two course meal to be served at a Centenary dinner for two people. Members will also be required to complete a food hygiene questionnaire following the completion of the task. Costs must not exceed £20 in total. Equipment: 2 gas rings per team (competitors to provide their own). No other heat is allowed. Electricity is not available. Time: 1 hour for cooking to include displaying of meal in space allowed (68.5cm x 68.5cm x 61cm high). Competitors may use their own alcove (Wales YFC will provide an alcove at the final) Alcove, backing material and accessories may be arranged prior to the commencement of the one hour and will be outside of this time. All exhibits to be within the alcove size/space including any drapes or lining, in/on serving dishes/containers (competitors to supply). Accessories that are in harmony with the rest of the exhibit and that are in scale with it and each other, but not dominant, are allowed. No cooking to be done before hand but ingredients may be weighed and vegetables/fruit washed beforehand. Work Space: One trestle table including cooker space. NO drinks to be displayed in the alcove with the exception of glasses and empty drinks bottles. CRAFT COMPETITION – 26 YEARS OR UNDER

Theme: ‘Commemorative item.’ Team: One member (26 years of age or under) Task: A commemorative item for a celebration of your choice in any medium – no more than 40cm x40cm x 40cm. Members must complete a practical test, as directed by the judge to showcase the skills used to create the item. Members should bring materials with them in readiness for the practical test. Only one electric socket will be provided for the practical test. Measurements: Maximum size 40cm (deep) x 40cm (width) x 40cm (height). Presentation space for finished item – half a trestle table. Costings: Not to exceed £20 in total. Costings to be displayed. (Please note all items used must have a value) Time: 30 mins allowed for practical test. Members have an additional 30 minutes following practical test to display and present their item. SHEEP SHEARING COMPETITION

TEAM Two members (one 26 and one 21 years of age or under). TASK Members to shear two lambs each. NOTES Competitors must provide their own shearing heads. All members must have passed either a NPTC Proficiency Test or a BWMB Blue Seal in Sheep Shearing to compete in the YFC Sheep Shearing Competition, a copy of the certificate or BISCA number must be supplied to the Wales YFC Centre in advance of the show. IMPORTANT DATE Pre-show Staff Meeting (date to be confirmed) –BISCA number to be submitted to the Wales YFC Centre. SCORING SYSTEM The BISCA Rules and marking system for 2018 will apply.

SINGING

Solo - One member (26 years of age or under). Group - Up to 6 singers but no less than 2 singers (26 years of age or under). TASK Solo section – A song performed by a Welsh group or artist. Group – Any song / songs from a Stage or Film Musical. ACCOMPANIMENT Members may provide their own instruments or an accompaniment (additional members allowed (26 and under) and one individual over 26 years of age for accompaniment). There is no restriction on the number of music pieces used. TIME Maximum time allowed for each section is 5 minutes. Up to 15 seconds overtime - 2 penalty marks; Up to 30 seconds overtime - 5 penalty marks; And a further 5 penalty marks will be deducted for every 15 seconds thereafter. EQUIPMENT Members to supply the appropriate CD \ Mp3 files which should include backing vocals only (CD \ Mp3’s will be operated by the YFC technician). DANCING TEAM A team of between 4 and 8 members (26 years of age or under). The same four members must dance both dances. Additional members (up to 4) are allowed to perform in either dance. TASK 1. Perform a dance from the 1920’s. 2. Teams are then to perform a contrasting dance. SPACE A 20’ x 20’ stage will be provided. TIME Maximum time allowed for each team is eight minutes. Minimum time allowed for each team is four minutes. PENALTIES Penalty marks at a rate of 2 marks per 15 seconds or part thereof will be incurred if teams go over time / under time. EQUIPMENT The YFC technician will be responsible for playing all CD’s/mp3’s. Competitors to provide their own CD’s/mp3 but PA equipment will be provided. ACCOMPANIMENT Members may provide their own instruments or an accompaniment (additional members allowed (26 and under) and one individual over 26 years of age for accompaniment). There is no restriction on the number of music pieces used.

DESIGN AND CREATE A KITE TEAM Three members; 2 members 26 years of age or under and one member 18 years of age and under. TASK Members of the team will be required to design and create a kite. The kite can be produced from any medium. Members will be asked questions from the Judge about the creation of their Kite. All members must be present to answer. Any extra material will be removed by the competition stewards. TIME 5 minutes will be allocated for the Judges questions. 30 minutes to display the exhibit.

RAF WHEELBARROW RELAY THEME : RAF TEAM Team of 11 members (26 years of age or under). A maximum of 5 wheelbarrows can be used. Teams must use ten members to race in the relay. One member 26 years of age on 1st September to do a live commentary (in total 11 members). TASK All wheelbarrows to be supplied by the teams and dressed according to the theme (RAF). One member 26 years of age or under on 1st September to do a live commentary, introducing their team, a hand held radio mic will be supplied. A relay race will take place following on from the introduction of the teams. TIMING Maximum time allowed for live commentary, introducing the team is 2 minutes. PENALTIES Penalty marks at a rate of 2 marks per 15 seconds or part thereof will be incurred if teams go over time.

DRESSING UP COMPETITION

THEME Any species of Bird.

TEAM Two members (One 18 years and one 16 years of age or under).

PROMOTE YOUR CLUB

TEAM Up to six members, at least 2 members to be 18 years of age or under on the 1st September, 2017. TASK To undertake a presentation to promote your club on the stage. Suitable items to be displayed to support the performance i.e leaflets ect. Members will be asked a question from the Judge, of which all members must be present to answer. EQUIPMENT Music is allowed and the PA technician will be responsible for playing all the CD’s/mp3’s. Competitors to provide their own CD’s / mp3 but PA equipment will be provided. Power point is not allowed. NOTES Pembrokeshire YFC will provide a table – competitors can bring their own costumes, props etc. No display boards will be allowed. TIME Maximum time allowed is 10 minutes and minimum time allowed is 5 minutes including setting and the clearing of the stage, followed by 2 minutes to answer the Judges question. PENALTIES Up to 15 seconds overtime / undertime - 2 penalty marks; Up to 30 seconds overtime / undertime - 5 penalty marks; a further 5 penalty marks will be deducted for every 15 seconds thereafter.

ON THE NEWS

TEAM Three members (26 years and under).

TASK Broadcast a news report live on stage.

Each team will be issued with a brief and press pack containing various sources of

information.

TIME 30 minutes preparation time. Three minutes will be allowed for the live news

report. Two minutes will be allowed for stage and sound prepartion prior to the live broadcast.

EQUIPMENT Props are permitted but no set. Pembs YFC will provide a table and chairs.

Competitors must supply their own tools. Chainsaws will not be allowed. Only battery powered drills will be allowed no other battery operated tools are allowed. No extra attachments on the

drill are allowed. Screws and\or bolts may be used but these must be supplied by the competitors. No nail guns allowed. No staple guns allowed.

MALE AND FEMALE TUG-OF-WAR TEAM

A team shall consist of eight pulling members. No more than two (2) members of a team shall be between the ages of 15 and 17 years on 1 September 2017 and the remainder of the team MUST be between 17 years of age and 26 years of age & under on 1 September 2017. All competitors must be full members of a

Club based in Wales and affiliated to Wales YFC or NFYFC. You cannot compete for more than one club and county in one membership year.

One male and one female team.

SUBSTITUTION After a team has pulled the first end of the first match, the team is able to use a substitution. One substitute may replace any one puller for the remainder of the competition (Age restriction of team still applies). Substitution may be used for

tactical reasons or due to injury.

Any potential substitutes must (unless otherwise instructed by competition organisers) have been signed in and had their membership card checked prior to

pulling in the competition.

At the time of substitution; both, the puller to be replaced and the substitute, must report in full pulling outfit, (shirts, shorts, stockings and footwear) to the

Chief Judge/Chief Steward who may designate an official to deal with the substitutes. A small (bathroom type) scale must be available at the pulling area,

(in a suitable place, on solid surface), to determine the weight difference between the two pullers. The substitute puller must be of equal weight or less than the puller he/she replaces. Directly after the change, the Chief Judge or designated official shall cancel the stamp or marking of the replaced puller, and indicate a

similar marking on the substitute, with an indelible marker. This change shall then be recorded.

DRESS AT WEIGH-IN Male teams may weigh-in in proper sized non-transparent shorts only.

Female teams may weigh-in in proper sized non transparent shorts and shirts or suitable sports tops only.

Boots need not be carried or worn on the scale during weigh-in.

NOTES The 2018 NFYFC Tug-of-War Rules shall apply as set by the ToWA.

Competitors' boots or shoes must not be `faked' in any way, i.e. the sole, heel and side of the heel shall be perfectly flush. No metal toecaps or metal toe plates

are permitted. Metal heel tips that are flush on the side and the bottom of the heel are permitted.

The judge(s) has / have the power and responsibility to disqualify a team or teams after a caution or disqualify without caution for any offence against the

rules.

Both sections will be run on a league basis if time allows otherwise they will be run on a knockout basis.

TEAM

Once weighed in, the team weight allowance cannot be improved upon through substitution i.e. increasing the number of females on the team. Any weight bonus

must be removed accordingly if the number of females has decreased below the original bonus threshold of the team.

Eg. Team of 5 males & 4 females = 600kg (560kg + 40kg bonus). A female puller of 70kg is substituted for a male. The male must weigh 60kg or less (Both in full

pulling gear) because the resultant bonus has decreased.

Competitors should note that the marks gained from the male, female & junior sections will be added together and divided in half

Only one Coach is permitted with each team during pulling. Only one Trainer or “Water Carrier” is permitted with each team. During pulling the Trainer shall take up position well clear of both teams and is not permitted to address any remark to
