DIRECTIONS TO TEST/TRIAL LOCATION – MAGIC’S LEGACY

Genoa City is located 9 miles south of Lake Geneva, WI at the WI/IL border.

From the North: Take US Hwy 12 south until Freeway ends. At stop sign turn right (west) on Hwy. H. Follow H to the

first stop sign which will be downtown Genoa City. Turn left one short block and turn right onto Hwy. B (west). Continue

1 1/2 miles to farm on your right. Exhibitor parking in designated areas by the house on property.

From the South: Take Hwy 12 north until you cross the WI/IL state line. Hwy 12 will split off to the right to begin the

freeway. Hwy H bears to the left which will take you into Genoa City. Continue as above.

NOTE: Course A arena for Sheep trial is 200’ x 300’

HT Field is 100’ X 100’

PT Field is 100’ X 200’

FOOD AND DRINK AT THE HERDING EVENTS

Free pastries and coffee will be provided each morning. Lunch will be available for purchase and must be pre-ordered

using the attached 2019 PWCCA Herding Trials Lunch Order Form. There are a few restaurants located in Genoa City

and fast food places 15 minutes away in Richmond IL.

THE HATHAWAY BIOGRAPHY 2019

We started herding in 1989 with our first dog, Timber. And soon

discovered that the upstanding dog trainers available needed much to be

desired; so, we bought our own sheep and learned how to do it. Through

the nineties we learned a lot about herding. We learned that there are good

trial dogs and that there are good working dogs; that there are ways to win

and ways to work stock. Somewhere in there Timber became the fourth

Belgian Tervuren to achieve HC status.

Our first student came to us and we tried to impart to her and the group

that followed the things that we had learned. Our emphasis was on

training the herding teams how to succeed…and how to win. We also

developed a method of training to aid all of us in this endeavor.

In 2000 our “proof of concept” dog was born, Utah. We trained him from

the ground up with all that we had learned. And it worked. Utah, at 26

months, became the youngest HC in the Belgian world. He was also the #1 herding Terv in 2003 (ABTC rankings), a

feat which he duplicated in 2012 at the age of 12. His son, Zion, has continued in his footsteps getting his HC at 28

months and he’s been the top dog twice out of his four years.

In the past 30 years we have trained and handled everything from a Bearded Collie to a Catahoula and most of the breeds

in between. We have put Herding Championships on Malinois, Tervuren and Border Collies; ten HCs all together.

We became herding judges in 1994 to give something back to the sport we love. As judges we look for good stock work;

work that you would like to see on your own farm dealing with your stock. We aren’t concerned overly much about

“style” as long as it gets the job done in a satisfactory fashion. When asked a question about our judging we usually can

answer, “Have you read the rule book?” That is how we judge, by the book.

We’re looking forward to judging your national specialty and I hope all of you have a good time working with your furry

friends. When it comes down to it, win or lose, Q or NQ, it’s all about having a good time and enjoying each other.

NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS

No un-entered dogs (except set-out dogs) will be allowed in the test/trial arenas during event hours.

Shaded/protected crating areas will be provided. Bath/Cool off tub provided. Bring your own

towels. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED: Please bring your own chairs.

Schedule will be provided. Bitches in season will be allowed but will be moved to the end of the

class in tests. Please notify the Event Secretary if your bitch is in season.

Exhibitors are responsible for keeping their dogs leashed and under control at all times and

MUST clean up after their dogs.

Porto potty provided for the rest of us.

All dogs must be current on their vaccinations (or titer) and parasite free.

All dogs must be leashed (NO FLEXI LEASHES) or crated except when working.

PLEASE HELP US KEEP THIS SITE CLEAN. USE TRASH CANS ON THE PREMISES.

HERDING PHOTOGRAPHER Dick Bruner, widely known for his awesome action herding shots will be on-site all weekend capturing both

the action in the arenas along with posed portraits on request. Dick will have his trailer on site so you can see

your photos on screen. Photos will be available right on site ($25) - no waiting for them in the mail (special

PWCCA TRIATHLON CHALLENGE

The PWCCA will once again present the Triathlon Challenge to honor the most versatile Pembroke competing

at the 2019 National Specialty. A corgi must enter and compete in at least three (3) events ~ agility, herding,

obedience, rally, tracking and conformation (including sweepstakes). The top two corgis earning the highest

number of points will be honored at the banquet on Saturday evening. Those corgi fanciers wanting to

participate in this competition must preregister by September 6, 2019. Go to the Specialty Page of the PWCCA

CHALLENGE TROPHIES

CH GLENTEVAR MARDI GRAS MEMORIAL CHALLENGE TROPHY, a sculpture of a Pembroke

Welsh Corgi herding a cow, has been donated by Mary Francis Marrow as a challenge trophy for the PWCCA

National Specialty Herding Trial. For permanent possession, this trophy must be won three times by the

identical owner(s), not necessarily with the same dog. The trophy will remain in the possession of the club until

it is won outright.

IN HONOR OF REBA CHALLENGE TROPHY, A bronze study of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi herding sheep

mounted on a wood trophy base. Originally donated by Judy Garbarino - Pokies Country Kennel to be awarded

to the High Combined qualifying score (all stock, all courses, all days, with at least two qualifying scores being

on different stock) winner at the PWCCA National Specialty Herding Trial, in honor of WTCH HTCH HC

Pokies Country Gal, HXAsdc HRDIII HTADIII NAP NJP CD TD, “Reba”. Retired in October, 2016, by DC

Caamora Aston Martin, HSBd HSAc HXAsd BN, the Reba Challenge Trophy was re-donated by Drifan Kennel

and Caamora Kennel.

Permanent possession of this trophy must be won three times by the identical owner(s), not necessarily with the

same dog. A wooden plaque, donated by Pokies Country Kennel, will be given each year to the winner of the

“Reba” trophy to commemorate their win.
