Welcome to the CIO Forum & Execu ve IT Summit

On behalf of The Portland Chapter of The Society for Information Management (SIM), our keynote speakers and our esteemed Advisory Council, we would like to welcome you to the 2nd Annual CIO Forum & Executive IT Summit. It is intended to benefit CIOs and senior IT executives throughout the Portland metropolitan area on an annual basis.

This conference is produced by and for the leading CIOs and information technology executives throughout the Portland area. The conference was developed in conjunction with the Executive Advisory Council members in direct response to the concerns and critical topics of interest of CIOs and senior IT executives throughout the region. We are confident you will gain practical solutions to assist you with your business challenges.

At this year’s conference we have the unique opportunity for panel discussions and presentations that state problems and solutions in areas specific to the challenges faced by professionals in this region. You will have the opportunity to meet colleagues and leaders from businesses, government agencies, professional organizations, healthcare, and academic institutions throughout the Portland region. This will give you the opportunity to develop relationships and strengthen your business and economic environment through IT solutions.

The CIO Forum & Executive IT Summit adheres to all SIM guidelines which prohibit solicitation by anyone; except for the requested suppliers who have been hand picked by the Executive Advisory Council of CIOs and senior IT executives that are paid sponsors at this year’s event.

We would also like to thank our other business partners and senior IT organizations, which include The Government Management Information Sciences International (GMIS), Global Executive Women (Global Exec Women), The Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF), and Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA).

The Portland Chapter of SIM, working closely with SIM International, fosters management education, best practices and sharing of ideas among IT leaders working in the region. We achieve this through periodic meetings, dinners, conferences and company sponsored visits and tours.

THE PORTLAND CHAPTER OF SIM IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH THISEXCLUSIVE EXECUTIVE IT CONFERENCE.

PROGRAM INTRODUCTION Lance Harris, CIO, TL-Harris Consulting; 2010 President, SIM Portland Chapter

9:15AM-10:15AM KEYNOTE - “THE BUSINESS VALUE OF SOCIAL SOFTWARE” Bellmont Grand Presented by: Wolfgang Kulhanek, Program Director, Social Software Adoption, IBM Software Group

Discussion: This keynote will discuss the business benefits of social networking. We will talk about networking, branding and productivity improvements by using social networking tools in the enterprise. We will use IBM as a case study of successful social software deployments and how IBM deals with the risk in letting our employees do social networking internally and especially externally.

10:15AM-11:00AM BREAK - SOLUTIONS EXCHANGE PAVILION

11:00AM-12:00PMSession 1 “EVERYTHING ELASTIC - TECHNOLOGY VISION 2010”Bellmont A Presented by: Mike Redding, Global Managing Director, Accenture Technology Labs

Discussion: The Accenture Technology Vision is a comprehensive analysis of emerging trends and major technological changes that will have a significant business impact on Accenture and its clients in the next three to five years. High-performance businesses use the Vision to understand the opportunities - and challenges - that lie ahead. Our Vision for 2010 describes an elastic world in which business capabilities, infrastructure, people and even thought can be expanded or contracted at will. As the “Everything Elastic” world starts to emerge more clearly, our scientists and thinkers have identified seven technology trends that will define how this new world is developing.

Session 2 “THE ART OF CHANGE MANAGEMENT” Bellmont C Moderated by: Barry Brunetto, VP IS, Blount International, Inc. Panelists: Ben Berry, CIO, ODOT Paul Wogan, CIO, OIA Global Logistics David deFiebre, Principal, DP Associates

Discussion: It is one thing to manage a large IT overhaul project -- getting budgets and timelines in tune with stakeholder needs -- however getting the users bought in is a completely different issue in itself. Change, especially when it comes to habitual actions in the workplace, is often met with resistance, whether it is someone simply set in their ways, or worse: the “anti-change agent.” How do you communicate change to the workforce? Are you educating features, selling benefits, or both? Join Barry Brunetto of Blount International as he shares war stories and moderates discussion about best-practice (and common fears!) of this critical point in IT transformation.

12:00PM-1:30PM LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - “OVERCOMING VIRTUALIZATION STALL WITH FINANCIAL ANALYSIS”Bellmont Grand Presented by: Steve Kaplan, VP, Data Center Virtualization, INX

Discussion: Most organizations become stuck before they reach the halfway point on their virtualization journey. A financial analysis presented in the format the CFO wants to see along with informative metrics such as ROI and IRR can break through the data center gridlock and enable rapid progress to the ultimate private cloud end goal of IT as a service.

2:00PM-3:00PMSession 1 “SOLVING REAL BUSINESS CHALLENGES WITH DOG FOOD: A CIO’S PERSPECTIVE ON THE Bellmont A EVOLUTION OF TODAY’S MOBILE WORKFORCE” Presented by: John Matthews, CIO, F5 Networks

Discussion: As CIO of one of Fortune Magazine’s ‘2010 Top 100 Fast Growing Companies’, F5 Networks’ John Matthews, understands the business challenges of today’s workforce. Your business, infrastructure, users, applications, and data are under constant threat from unauthorized access and malicious attacks. Attend this seminar for an in-depth perspective on the evolution of today’s mobile workforce, and how to stay ahead of the curve.

Session 2 “IT CURRICULUM AND CRITICAL SKILLS SET FOR EFFECTIVE IT PROFESSIONALS: IS THERE A GAP?”Bellmont C Moderated by: J. Hootman, Sr. IT Faculty, DeVry University Panelists: Mike Eom, Assoc. Professor of Business MIS, University of Portland Rene Reitsma, Assoc. Professor, School of Business, OSU

Discussion: As a business organization faces increasing competition and challenges in the global economy, its IT is expected to contribute significantly in achieving strategic and operational goals and objectives. This expectation has certainly changed IT professionals’ job definitions, roles and required skills and knowledge set. For years, both theory and practice have indicated that effective IT professionals must possess both technical and business competencies. However, many recent CIO surveys show that there is still a lack of well-rounded IT professionals with the ‘right’ skill set to meet organizations’ needs. This panel discussion addresses the state and role of IT education as well as ways to keep current IT curriculum market relevant and the pipeline for IT professionals intact. This panel discusses current IT education, assesses its role as a feeder to the IT job market, and analyzes changes required by that market.

3:00PM-3:30PM BREAK - SOLUTIONS EXCHANGE PAVILION

3:30PM-4:30PMSession 1 “DEMYSTIFYING THE CLOUD – PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR PREPARING FOR THE EMERGING Bellmont A CLOUD PARADIGM” Presented by: Jim Cooke, Sr. Managing Director, IT Transformation Internet Business Solutions Group, CISCO

Discussion: In this session Jim Cooke – Global Head of Cisco IBSG’s IT Innovations Practice and former Chief IT Architect at Cisco, provides a practical overview of the Cloud and provides pragmatic strategies for improving the economics of your IT function in the near term while ensuring your architecture is prepared for the emerging cloud paradigm when it becomes relevant to your business.

Session 2 “THE VALUE OF IT and IT METRICS”Bellmont C Moderated by: Manoj Garg, CIO, Virtual Information Executives Panelists: Mike Green, CIO, Paccess Nate Oliver, VP IS, Genesis Financial Services

Discussion: Most CIOs and leaders of IT struggle in demonstrating the value of IT to the business. The key challenge lies in defining the right metrics that make sense to business leaders. Unfortunately, there is no standard way to do this. In this session, three CIOs will discuss practices they have followed successfully in demonstrating the value of IT using metrics aligned to the business. You will learn about two specific and distinct methodologies for defining and demonstrating IT value, a top-down approach and a bottoms-up approach. Please come, learn and share your best practices with the group.

9:15AM-10:15AM KEYNOTE - “CIO CAREER DEVELOPMENT” Bellmont Grand Presented by: Alan Guibord, Founder, The Advisory Council Andy Wihtol, President, Andrew Associates

Discussion: An informal and interactive discussion with today’s search industry leaders. Find out: what they hear from prospective clients, what skills are needed to be successful, why do CIO’s loose their jobs, what are prospective employers looking for, how do you get on their radar screens, which resumes get their attention, what is the future state of the CIO. This is your chance to hear it from the experts.

10:15AM-11:00AM BREAK - SOLUTIONS EXCHANGE PAVILION

11:00AM-12:00PMSession 1 “INFORMATION GOVERNANCE: SMARTER STRATEGIES TO MAXIMIZE YOUR INFORMATION Bellmont A SUPPLY CHAIN” Presented by: Cynthia Babb, Product Management Applications, IBM Software Steve Miller, Information Management Program Director, IBM Software

Discussion: The volume and variety of digital information is exploding as our Planet becomes more instrumented, interconnected and intelligent. Current economic times require corporations and governments to analyze new information faster and make timely decisions for achieving business goals within budget. Look around you and think about all the new types of information your organization is collecting that it previously did not capture 10, 5, or even a single year ago. How do you manage and protect this information today? Is your organization able to harness this data to drive smarter business outcomes and ensure your company is prepared for the future? In this session we will discuss best practices to master the complete lifecycle of information, establish sustainable management of information quality and security, and enable IT to make information more accessible and meaningful to the business. Learn how an effective governance strategy can enable IT and business to collaborate more effectively by ensuring information is aligned to business goals. Understand how your organization can take a holistic approach to improve operational efficiency by reducing risk and wasted time and cost associated with finding, understanding, and managing information.

Session 2 “IT LEADERSHIP - DILBERT OR COVEY?”Bellmont C Moderated by: Lance Harris, CIO, TL-Harris Consulting Panelists: Steve Brilling, Executive Director, Entrepreneurship Center, Seattle University Ida Salazar, CIO, City of Salem Laura Schildkraut, Principal, Onboarding Gen Y

Discussion: In today’s organizations, IT departments seem to be needing more leadership than other departments and seem to not be at the Executive Table. Is this an inaccurate perception? Is it because IT Leaders don’t run their departments well? Is it because we are technocrats and not business thinkers? Join Ida Salazar, Steve Brilling, Laura Schildkraut and Lance Harris in a very open-miked discussion about IT Leadership. Please come and participate with us to identify the problems and provide some answers.

12:00PM-1:30PM LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - “PULSE: THE INTERNET AS THE ULTIMATE MEASUREMENT Bellmont Grand INSTRUMENT FOR BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT” Presented by: Douglas W. Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research

Discussion: In this session, Doug Hubbard, author of How to Measure Anything and The Failure of Risk Management will present his latest research into a new way to use the internet. As more people use Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, eBay and Amazon, it is become more feasible to use the “tracks” they leave behind as an important source of business intelligence. Reports on the frequency of particular searches on Google can be used to determine if unemployment is decreasing or even to determine where flu outbreaks occur first. Ranks of books on Amazon can be analyzed to determine whether housing is recovering or if more people are going into their own business. New methods for searching blogs and twitter can give you the “buzz” on your company. The internet has become the most powerful socio-economic measurement tool in history – and is yet vastly underutilized for this purpose. Find out what’s next for this new way of analyzing trends in business, government, and popular culture.
