Welcome Back! I hope your holidays were amazing. This Christmas I kept a promise to myself regarding my adult chil-

dren, and I believe that was part of the reason our family had a beautiful holiday. We actually celebrated on Tuesday,

December 22nd as a family and again on Friday, January 8th with my mom. We did this because it is important to me to

realize I do not have the monopoly on holidays; it is not about ME. My older son went with his girlfriend to Augusta to

spend time with her family, and the rest of us headed to New York Christmas night. Everyone was happy, and we all

remembered how blessed we truly are. As we enter 2016, the beauty of the CHRISTmas spirit does not have to stop because December is over. My classes are studying Beowulf and the spread of Christianity in Europe, as well as Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King,

Jr’s. “The Drum Major Instinct.” In this sermon to his congregation in 1968, Dr. King talks about what he would hope he would hear if he

were able to attend his own funeral service. We have talked a great deal about eulogies and the legacies we hope to leave behind.

PHS Seniors impress me; I am blessed to spend time with them each day. I just hope they learn as much from me as I do from them.

I am Courtlyn Foster, a senior at Pelham High School. I was born in Alabama and moved to Georgia the summer before my 4th grade

year. I love being around happy people and not grumpy, moody people. I love animals and plan to have a farm one day. I plan to attend college and become an RN or possible a doctor later on. I have two sisters, and I am the baby of my family. I work at the Market as a cashier and have been there almost two years. Being outside is a must for me I am not an inside person at all. Having only four more months left in high school is the happiest but scariest feeling in the world.

I’m Monquie Williams, A.K.A “Mookie.” I turned 18 on Jan 20. I’m in love with making money, so my grind never stops. My favorite two people are my babies, Desmond & Fe’linda. I plan on attending Albany State Uni-versity or Kennesaw State to take up Early Childhood Education. I’m looking forward to graduation and that

awesome road called success.

My name is Gabriel Lewis, and I am one of the many graduating students this year. After coming to Pelham, I found myself in an en-riched environment full of unique and interesting people. I came to Pelham my junior year and put journalism as one of my electives. As soon as I walked into the class, I was immediately welcomed by all the students and knew it would be a great class. The journalism class here has really expanded my opportunities of becoming intertwined in the Pelhamite community. It has also helped me become a much better writer and let me explore different areas of interest.

I am Taylor Davis and a senior at PHS where I have attended all four years. I have participated in foot-

ball cheerleading, tennis, golf, livestock showing, yearbook staff, the school Buzz staff, FFA, and FCCLA. I have done football cheerleading, tennis, livestock showing, and FFA all four years of high school. I was a captain of the 2016 football cheerleading squad, and I am one of the editors of the 2016 yearbook. I was in golf and the school Buzz my 9th grade and FCCLA my 11th and 12th grade. After I graduate, my plan is to move in with my sister in Tifton, GA and go to Southern Regional Tech-nical College then start my program into Radiology Tech. After finishing my first year at Southern Re-gional Technical College, I plan to move to the University of Georgia and graduate from there.

My name is Angelica, and I am 18 years old. I was born in Cairo, Georgia. I grew up with an independent mom, who took care of me and my sister with a little help from my grandmother. I have been in journalism for two semesters and I really enjoy it. My hobbies are riding horses, going hunting, and having fun. I am not a sociable person, but am trying to be for my senior year. I will be graduating May 28, 2016 which means I have only four more months of my high school life. I only hope the best awaits me because I have gone through a struggle, but if not, I am ready to fight to have a great life.

I’m Diamond Owens and I am 17 years old. I was born in Camilla. I have one brother who is 17 and a sister who is 20. Being a soph-omore in high school can be hard at times. This is my first year being in the journalism class so when I walked into this class, I didn’t know what to do. When I’m not in school, I enjoy singing and dancing. My short term and long term goals are to graduate high school and to become a neonatal nurse. My passion is to work with premature babies. Most people say I will change my mind about becoming a nurse, but I don’t think I will ever change my mind.

My name is Jala Miller I was born and raised most of my life in Texas until we started moving around, which I didn’t mind because I got to see a lot of beautiful places like Colorado and New Mexico. Travel-ing around made me want to do it for the rest of my life so I decided to become a helicopter pilot. I am a

very independent person. I like to accomplish things on my own. I feel like I didn’t do it if I had help. I love having a sense of humor; it makes everything go by easier.

My name is Kristen Phillips. I am a senior here at Pelham High School. This is my first year on the Buzz staff. My favorite color is purple, but like a deep purple not a light dainty purple. I am Vice-President of Beta Club and Pelham Banking Youth Advisory Board. Through the duration of high school, I have been a member of 4-H, Beta Club, the Year-book staff, track and field, cross country, softball, and the Buzz staff. My freshmen year I made a short film. I have logged over 350 hours of community service in my four years of high school. After school ends, I plan to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I plan to attend the University of Georgia and get a degree in either the medical field or education.

My name is Sarah Weaver. I’m in my eleventh year and this isn’t my first time being in journalism or being a part of the Buzz Group. Not all of you know me and that’s okay. I prefer small groups of friends, and my idea of fun is reading a book and spending time alone or with my best friend, Lauren Thornton. I’m hoping to get accepted into the University of West Florida or somewhere that has a very high success rate in creative writing de-grees. Right now, I’m focusing on high school more than I am the future. You have to survive today before breathing the air of tomorrow. My favorite type of music is alternative rock, but I listen to just about anything that catches my interest. I love to write stories and if I could create a world all of my own, I would gladly leave this one to go there. Sometimes, if you see me staring off into space I’ll be imagining new characters and their tragedies or if I’m having a good day, I may give them a super pow-er. In my mind, I am free of worry and pain if I’m in my world. If I close my eyes, I’m lying on a huge cotton bed with snow falling over me, while buttercups grow all around me. Fantasy is sweet, but for some reason, tragedy is sweeter. Anyway, hello to all the beautiful readers. I hope you enjoy this semester’s Buzz.

Writers of the Buzz cont.

I am Shawntanique Leshore and a Senior at PHS. I enjoy cheerleading and dancing. I am from St. Petersburg, Florida and hope to move back there after graduation and pursue a career in nursing. I have two sisters and one brother; fam-ily is very important to me. It is hard to believe my Senior year is coming to an end, but I look forward to enjoying every minute and moving to the next level after graduation.

Senior Beta Hosts Blood Drive The PHS Beta Club hosted a blood drive Friday. The pictures capture PHS Senior, John Drake, as he helped save a life by giving blood. PHS donated a grand total of fifty-one pints of blood!

This week in Dr. Boyd’s HELO, the debate class spiced things up by engaging in a debate tournament against each other. The students debate each other over a wide range of controversial topics such as gun control and abortion. The winner must debate Dr. Boyd in an ultimate test of wit and word. This tournament should prove an enriching and inspiring event for

all the students in this particular HELO. Sophomore Lauren West and Senior Kristen Phillips de-bated each other on the topic of abortion with no winner de-clared.

Wrestling

As the Hornets wrestle there way for a win Friday night against Bacon County. De'Marcus Jones completed a perfect cradle to pin his opponent. The Hornets won 44 to 30. Great job to all the PHS wrestlers!

PHS Hoops

PHS continues to dominate on the court. Both teams won tonight against Calhoun, and they will travel to Thomasville on Friday and finish the week with a home game on Saturday against Early County.

Be sure to check out our PHS Face-book page and the article on Senior, McKenzie Smith, daughter of Laron and Willa Smith.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As the Seniors in my class think about their last semester in high school and begin finalizing their plans after graduation, it is an opportune time to think beyond this semester, the next five years, or the next twenty years. They are currently writing a personal essay about the legacy they would like to leave behind and how to make that legacy become a reality. Using Dr. King’s “Drum Major Instinct” as motivation, the Seniors are brainstorming ideas from which they will write and deliver to the class. We could all learn from the

legacy we were left from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

PHS Hornet Family Celebrates

Thanks to an amazing PHS faculty and the generous support of the community, the Hornet family celebrated together with a lunch-eon before a much deserved Christmas break. An added bonus to the celebration included everyone receiving a gift. We appreci-ate the donations from the following: Nive Moore, Julia McKenzie, FCCLA, Linmda Norman, Josi Lewis PHS, Sandra Jenkins, Mrs. Susie Pollock’s class, Coach Pinkins, Dr. Travis Outzs (former PHS Superintendent), Booster club, Mitchell County Ford, Susan Cox, Hodges Jewelry, Pelham Trading Post, Cottage Flower Shop, Julia Adams, State Farm Insurance, Pelham Banking Company, Walmart, Moyes, Pelham Chiropractic, Pelham Flower Shop, Chicken Trax, Ken Young Company, Hardees of Pelham, Waters Lab, Home Service Center, Camilla Lawn and Garden, Family Music Plus, and Rocky Bend Flint River.

From the pictures, it is obvious everyone had a great time before leaving to spend time with their own families.
