    Pegasus Parent Newsletter is a resource designed to aid you in this process.

    As a parent o an incoming student, you may ask how can I participate in my students experience at UCF? You can

    hink o yoursel as a partner - understand the resources or success in and out o the classroom; communicate regularlwith your student; share your perspectives and experiences;ncourage sel -advocacy. From time to time, you may even bealled upon or some extra money!

    At some point during the move-in process and frst year, youwill most likely have questions. You will be in good company with other parents o our newest Knights on campus. Questionsmay include: how will my student pay or classes? How will my tudent stay healthy? Where and what will my student eat? Will

    my student be sa e? How can my student get involved on campus?Who is my students advisor and what can s/he expect rom thedvisor.

    Tis newsletter aims to provide in ormation to point you in theight direction to fnd answers to these questions, as well as help

    your student in fnding answers to these questions. It is producedmonthly through April and will hope ully serve as a guide or therst year.     n recognition o the health risks caused by smoking, the University o CentraFlorida will provide a smoke- ree environment or its students, aculty, sta an

    visitors beginning Fall 2012. Te policy is the result o a grassroots e ort started bya UCF student more than two years ago.

    Tere are now at least 639 smoke- ree campuses in the United States, up rom about400 a year ago, according to the American Nonsmokers Rights Association. Tere areat least 13 in Florida, including UF, FIU, Valencia College, and Miami-Dade College.

    Even small amounts o secondhand smoke have proven to be harm ul to people,said Michael Deichen, M.D., director o Health Services. Te smoke- ree policysupports everyones right to breathe clean air.

    o help those who want to stop smoking, the university is providing cessation servicesand resources, including individual and group classes, support groups, telephoneand online counseling, sel -help materials and medications.     their personal property online withthe UCF Police Department. Items such

    as computers, bikes, iPods, cameras, and other valuables can be entered. Why would you want to dothis? Te is the number one crime that afects college

    students across America.

    Te police enter your serial number into the national and statedatabases. Law en orcement agencies are now able to retrieve the

    in ormation so that stolen item may be recovered and returned toyou. Te in ormation is kept or 4 years and is kept con dentialand is only accessible to law en orcement o cers. Tis program
