XI. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND GRANT SUPPORT

Current Research

Prevention Research Centers Healthy Aging Research Network (CDC HAN)Note. The eight-university CDC HAN collaborative serves as an umbrella for a variety of public health and aging research projects that are national in scope and conducted locally by each member center in its partner community. The ethnic and geographic diversity of the primarily underserved partner communities across the network enriches the research. Community-based participatory research principles underlie the efforts; the Colorado member center works closely with its Community Team in the rural, Hispanic/non-Hispanic white, low income San Luis Valley of southern Colorado. Research takes place under the auspices of the following groups: Healthy Brain WorkgroupEmotional Health Intervention Review Group (expert review of evidence)Environmental Aspects of Healthy Aging Work GroupCommunity Wayfinding Work GroupPhysical Activity Interest GroupResearch Dissemination and Practice GroupLocal San Luis Valley Research (with the San Luis Valley HAN Community Team)

Examining the Impact of Cognitive Impairment on Co-occurring Chronic Conditions (SIP-37; University of Washington, Mark Snowden PhD)

Preventing Caries in Preschoolers: Testing a Unique Service Delivery Model in American Indian Head Start Programs (Center for Native Oral Health Research, Judith Albino PhD)

Using Dental Health Narrative Video during Medical Well Child Care Visits to Change Caregiver Oral Health Behaviors (Center for Native Oral Health Research, Judith Albino PhD, Patricia Braun MD MPH)

Program in Palliative Care Research Core Investigator Team (University of Colorado Denver, Jean Kutner MD MPH)

Recently Completed Research

Perspectives of Latino Families with Family-centered Rounds at an Academic Children’s Hospital

Prevention Research Centers Cardiovascular Health Intervention Research and Translation Network (PRC CHIRTN) (Lucinda L. Bryant PhD)Note. Similar in structure to the CDC HAN, the six-university PRC CHIRTN collaborative developed national research projects that the member centers conducted locally in their partner communities. The ethnic and geographic diversity of the primarily underserved partner communities across the network enriched the research. The Colorado member center worked closely with its Community Team in the rural, Hispanic/non-Hispanic white, low income San Luis Valley of southern Colorado.
