PURPOSEAt the completion of this course, participants should be able to:• Recognize the importance of “building” a differential interpretation in radiology• Identify the most common radiographic lesions in infants, children and adolescents.• Review the indications of CBCT within the frame of practicing pediatric dentistry• Discuss the importance of radiation safety in the practice of dentistry with children and
adolescents• Recognize the importance of “building” a differential diagnosis based on the clinical
presentation of oral lesions• Recognize the most common soft tissue lesions in infants, children, and adolescents• Discuss the most updated treatment for some of the most common oral conditions
besides gingivitis and dental caries• Discuss the importance of the dental management of medically compromised children• Review the most common dental protocols for medically compromised children.

F E A T U R I N GJuan Yepes, DDS, MD, MPH, MS, DrPH
Juan F. Yepes DDS, MD, MPH, MS, DrPH is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry and an attending at Riley Children Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Juan is also a clinical associate professor at the University at Buffalo. Juan is a dentist and a physician from Javeriana University at Bogotá, Colombia. In 1999, Juan moved to the USA and attended the University of Iowa and the University of Pennsylvania where he completed a fellowship and residency in Radiology and Oral Medicine respectively in 2002 and 2004. In 2006, He completed a Master in Public Health (MPH), and in 2011 a Doctoral Degree in Public Health (DrPH) both with emphasis in Epidemiology at the University of Kentucky College of
Public Health. In 2008, Juan completed a residency program in Dental Public Health at University of Texas, Baylor College of Dentistry and completed a residency program and a master in pediatric dentistry at the University of Kentucky in 2012.
Juan is board-certified by the American Boards of Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine, and Dental Public Health. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Oral Medicine, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Indiana Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He is a fellow in dental surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh, and is a member of the editorial board of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology. He has many years of experience in medicine, medically compromised children and dental protocols, diagnosis and radiology in children and shares these experiences in outstanding lectures.

Tara E. Schafer, DDS, MS, Course Director, Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree as well as her Master of Science Degree in Oral Biology and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the Medical College of Georgia. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Schafer is a member of the ABPD Examination Committee and serves as an Examiner for the ABPD Oral Clinical Exam.
