• Innovationasresearch=ieldstartedtobeexploredwithworksofJosephSchumpeter(1934)whowasthe=irstonehighlightedtheimportanceofinnovationforeconomicdevelopment.
• AccordingtoSchumpeter:innovationistreatedasnewcombinationsintheeconomy,includingnewcombinationsofgoods,methods(productiontechnology),markets,suppliersandorganizationandthesourceofcompanies’pro=its.
• Innovationisverywildlyunderstoodphenomena,f.e.:– aninteractiveprocesswhichreferstothebehaviourofenterprisesinplanningandimplementingchangestotheiractivities(NauwelaersandWintjes,2002)
– theintroductionofneweconomicactivity,includingboththeintroductionofinnovationintothemarketplace,aswellasenteringasanewimitativecompetitor(Koellinger,2008)
– assuccessfulimplementationofcreativeideas,– Innovationrequiresthedeparturefromexistingtechnologies,practicesandventurebeyondthecurrentstateoftheart(Dess,Lumpkin,2005).
