  • 2. The cell phone lends itself to constructing ones identity as oppose to other pieces of technology because it is almost always readily available to its owner.

    Cell phones do not have secretaries like in an office setting, and they do not have a wide variety of people who could pick up the phone like in a household setting. When I call someone on their cell phone I expect to hear from them and only them.

    For example if I didnt know this persons name I might construct this persons identity as a male because it is typically a song that a male as oppose to a female would listen to.

    Phone companies in their marketing strategies have played a role in depicting a cell phone as a personal identity symbol.

    How can one constantly improve oneself?
    By updating your Facebook you are in essence improving or changing the identity of your virtual self.

    By being able to constantly improve/change your virtual identity through the use of your phone, it becomes a significant factor in shaping your identity.
