PEARL STREET MALL CONCLUSION

Before 1976

- Downtown Boulder losing business to suburban shopping malls.- Boulder Tomorrow founded in 1966 to advocate for downtown redevelopment.- Sasaki & Associates hired to develop downtown master plan.

1976 - 1977

- Pedestrian mall constructed along Pearl Street.- Aimed to bring suburban shopping experience to the urban core.

1977 - Present

- One of few examples in the U.S. of a highly successful pedestrian mall.- Landscape features, outdoor dining and street festivals create a vibrant atmosphere.- Nearby colleges support restaurants and businesses
