prayer of confession *

Let us confess our sins before God and one another.

Compassionate God, you have shown your love to us in the ways you have cared for us and provided for our needs. And you have commanded us to extend your love by caring for, and attending to, the needs of others. But Lord, we must confess that so often we ignore your command and have not shown your love to our brothers and sisters. We turn our faces away from the weak and the helpless, and we have not listened to the cry of the needy.  Forgive us we pray. Remind us that we are responsible for each other, and your command to love our neighbors as ourselves is fulfilled through our actions.

Hear the good news: God has given you all you need to be the love of God to each other. Love as you have been loved. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen.

anthemPilgrims’ Hymn Stephen Paulus

(1949-2015)Even before we call on Your name to ask you, O God, When we seek for the words to glorify You, You hear our prayer; unceasing love, O unceasing love, surpassing all we know. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Even with the darkness sealing us in, we breathe your name, and through all the days that follow so fast, we trust in You; Endless Your grace, O endless Your grace, beyond all mortal dream. Both now and forever, and unto ages and ages, Amen.

Response to The Word

affirmation of faith* The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

arr. Nathan PachecoBe thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee, and thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son. Thou in me dwelling, and I will Thee one. High king of Heaven, my victory won, may I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befalls, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. Amen.
