BACKGROUND/RATIONALE: Further to Directive 10-1 of the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, the Blueberry First Nation, represented by Ratliff & Company, has submitted the attached information to consult with the Regional District concerning proposed additions to the existing reserve. Obtaining reserve status for these lands will transfer jurisdiction to the federal government under the Indian Act. Where requested by a municipality (or First Nation), there is a requirement to negotiate in areas such as, joint land use planning/bylaw harmonization, tax considerations, service provision and future dispute resolution. However, municipal governments do not have a general or unilateral veto over the granting of reserve status. There are no matters recommended for negotiation in this proposal.
