Amid calls for the 2019/20 Premier League season to be declared null and void,

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has aimed a strongly-worded message at those who want to see his side denied the league title.

The Reds are runaway leaders in this season’s Premier League campaign, and currently hold a 25-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City with just nine matches left to be played.

However, after the league was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool’s hopes of a first league title since 1990 came under fire, with a number of figures across England’s top flight calling for the

season to be written off.According to Klopp, though, those

calls are misguided, and the 52-year-old stressed that his side deserves to be crowned champions this season, regardless of whether or not the campaign can be completed on the pitch.

“There was talk that people wanted to declare the season null and void,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager said while speaking at the DFB Academy on Monday, per the Daily Star.

“So you thought, ‘Huh? We have played 76% of the season and you just want to delete the thing?’ We are first in the home table, we are first in the away table. It is a season in which we should become champions.

“Dealing with the crisis is the most important thing. But that doesn’t mean that certain things are of no importance at all just because they are less important. That would have been something that I personally would find unfair, to just say that it didn’t happen.

“I think there are worse things in life than not becoming champions. A lot of people around us have big problems.

“People die, it always happens, but at the moment [it is] because of a virus that we all didn’t know and for which nobody could be prepared.

“We cannot prepare for everything, but also have to react often. That’s the biggest part of my life, reacting to things that I didn’t expect.” - kickoff.com

Australia quick Pat Cummins wants cricket’s lawmakers to approve the use of an artificial

substance to shine the ball after a ban on the use of saliva was recommended in the wake of the COVID-19 health crisis.

The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) cricket committee has recommended the ban on the use of spit when the sport returns after the coronavirus shutdown because of fears it could lead to the spread of COVID-19.

Cricketers have long used saliva and sweat to shine one side of the ball, altering the aerodynamics in an attempt to generate movement in the air as it flies towards the batsman.

“If we remove saliva, we have to have another option,” Cummins told the cricket.com.au website

“Sweat’s not bad, but I think we need something more than that, ideally. Whatever that is, wax or I don’t know what.

“If that’s what that science is telling us, that it’s high risk using saliva ... as long as we’re keeping other options open, whether that’s sweat or something artificial.”

Earlier this month, Australian cricket-ball manufacturer Kookaburra said it had developed a wax applicator to enhance shine and aid swing.

Cummins’ teammate and fellow quick Josh Hazlewood said the proposed ban

on saliva would be difficult to police.“I’d like saliva to be used obviously

but if that’s what they’ve put forward (a ban), I guess everyone is playing the same game,” he told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.

“Once it comes back to you as a bowler, it’s second nature to just give it a little touch up if you see something, and that’s going to be hard to stop to be honest. And it’s a tough thing to monitor for sure.”

Cricket Australia (CA) is also considering disinfecting the ball during matches to minimise the health risk to players, the head of its medical team said on Wednesday.

EMMA SANDERS

An end to home advantage, more young players and weird celebrations - are these

among the things we can expect to see in the Premier League when it restarts inside empty stadiums?

The past two weeks of Bundesliga action have given us an insight into how the game has been affected behind closed doors in Germany.

And there have been benefits, as well as disadvantages, to playing without fans.

Here are a few things we have noticed that could have an impact on the Premier League.

An end to home advantage? Is there any advantage still to be

had when you don’t have the support of your fans in the stadium and it’s no longer intimidating for the opponents?

The past two weeks of the Bundesliga suggest that could be the case. Only three wins have been picked up at home in 22 matches. And more goals have been scored by the away teams too (44 compared to 25.)

Borussia Dortmund hoped for some home advantage in their top-of-the-table match with Bayern Munich on Tuesday but it was the league leaders who pulled away even further with a 1-0 win. And visitors Wolfsburg thrashed Bayer Leverkusen, who started the day fourth, 4-1 on the same night.

Borussia Monchengladbach scored their fastest Bundesliga goal in five years (37 seconds) in a 3-1 win at Frankfurt and Mainz avoided an away defeat after trailing by at least two goals for the first time since 2017 when they came back to draw 2-2 at Cologne.

Mainz also lost a Bundesliga match by a score of 5-0 for the first time in their history in the next home game against RB Leipzig, while Augsburg registered their biggest away win in the league since October 2017 against Schalke.

Several Premier League clubs believe that, even without fans, there

is an advantage to be had by playing at home, rather than at neutral venues, as has been discussed.

Watford chairman Scott Duxbury said on 9 May that playing games away from Vicarage Road would cost them “the familiarity and advantage” that home matches provide.

But, so far at least, home teams are the ones suffering in the Bundesliga.

Weird celebrationsSome things were exactly the same

as Dortmund and Schalke took centre stage in the early kick-off on 16 May - Erling Braut Haaland scoring, for example.

His goal in the 29th minute set Dortmund on their way to a comfortable 4-0 victory in front of an empty Westfalenstadion.

But the celebrations were definitely different.

With no fans in the ground, there was no outpouring of emotion from the stands, no roar when the ball crossed the line and no pile-on of

players due to social distancing measures.

Instead, Haaland’s team-mates formed an arc around him from a short distance and applauded as he did a strange dance on his own in the corner.

Hertha Berlin forward Vedad Ibisevic, who celebrated with team-mates during their 3-0 win at Hoffenheim, said footballers are “not robots” and have to be “passionate”.

But Freiburg keeper Alexander Schwolow pointed out an advantage to the lack of fans.

“Football lives off fans and the people we can excite,” said Schwolow following their 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig. “But on the pitch we communicated more because we can hear each other better.”

Less pressure on refereesYou might think the absence of

vociferous, partisan fans would mean a calmer atmosphere and that referees would need to show fewer

yellow and red cards. But it seems little has changed on

that front in the Bundesliga. There were 24 bookings given on

the first weekend after the restart, while 25 were shown this weekend.

That follows the pattern from the previous five gameweeks, in which an average of 24 yellow cards had been given. There were no red cards shown on the first weekend but two players were given their marching orders this weekend - Felix Klaus in Wolfsburg’s defeat by Borussia Dortmund and Philipp Bargfrede in Werder Bremen’s victory over Freiburg.

That was just the fourth time in the past 12 gameweeks that more than one red card had been shown.

While it appears refereeing decisions have not been impacted, Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker says there is “considerably more playing time” as the players have not been encouraged to waste time and play-act by supporters.

A chance for young players to thrive

The Bundesliga is renowned for showcasing some of Europe’s top young talent and the past two weekends have been no different.

Dortmund’s 19-year-old striker Haaland and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, 20, have stolen headlines with their goalscoring form of late.

But are there benefits to not having any fans in the stadium for other youngsters hoping to break through?

No verbal abuse from opposition fans and not having to worry about the “occasion” presents an opportunity for young debutants to flourish with reduced pressure.

Florian Wirtz made history in a 4-1 win over Werder Bremen last Monday when he became Bayer Leverkusen’s youngest Bundesliga player (17 years, 15 days) - the third youngest overall in the competition.

So will we see more of the Premier League’s youngsters given a chance?-bbc

Four ways empty stadiums could affect Premier League’s return

Lifting the Premier League trophy without fans there to see it would be

a “pretty strange” experience, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has said.

Liverpool need just six points from their remaining nine games to win the league for the first time in 30 years but there is still no clear date on when the season will resume after it was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans will not be allowed to attend games in line with the government’s protocols for the return of elite sport.

“Of course it would feel different because if you win any

trophy and receive it without any fans there, it would be pretty strange,” club captain Henderson told BBC Radio.

“It’s still not over, we still have work to do … We want to finish as strongly as we can to make sure it is a full season.

“After that, whether we win it or whatever, then (receiving) the trophy and the fans not being there … You just have to deal with it when it comes.”

Clubs began training in small groups last week and will vote later on Wednesday on whether to move to the second phase of ‘Project Restart’ which would allow players to resume close-contact training.-bbc

RESPONSE

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

Welcomed everyone at the public participation meeting and indicated that, the reason why we do not have many people turn up at this meeting, is because of this COVID 19, but this will not prevent us from proceeding with the meeting at all.

Mr. Willy Matsi Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

Introduced himself and the consulting team and further explain the background of the project.

Mr. David Aiyambo

Healthy Earth Environmental Consultants CC (HEEC)

Presented the proposed project to the community.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

I am aware of this project, since 2018, when you came here and you spoke to my late father but you are taking too long to kick

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

There is reason why we took too long, Chief it is because the project is a little bit complex, we need a lot of authorization from

Page 6: Pe 18 1 ay New tech helps ministry better monitor Covid-19 · Offices to Let in Windhoek West VIRGO REAL ESTATES – 061252990 RESIDENTIALS PROPERTIES TO LET Otjomuise Trossingen

start. the central government and the

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is one of the vital requirements. We hope this time around the process will not take long.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

For how long do we still need to wait before this project start?

Mr. David Aiyambo Healthy Earth Environmental Consultants CC (HEEC)

Well, Chief, it is difficult to give an exact date, because we need to finish with the Environmental Assessment process and once we finished with the EIA, the report will be submitted for review at DEA for the issuance of an Environmental Clearance Certificate and thereafter the project can proceed legally.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

We have many problems in this village and one of the major problems is water shortages, we walk round about 4 Km to access drinking water at the borehole at Otjithoko Tjongava, hence we are requesting this company to pull a pipeline from the borehole at Otjithoko Tjongava to our village.

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

We will make sure that the pipeline from the borehole to the village will materialize. The company have a corporate social responsibility and these are the kind of projects we intend to undertake to assist the community.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

Another problem we have in this area, which also need urgent attention is unemployment. People in this village need jobs, we do not want to see people from other areas coming from

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

All the semi-skilled jobs will be offered to the local people, only the skilled job will be given to the people from other regions provided that it is not locally available.

Page 7: Pe 18 1 ay New tech helps ministry better monitor Covid-19 · Offices to Let in Windhoek West VIRGO REAL ESTATES – 061252990 RESIDENTIALS PROPERTIES TO LET Otjomuise Trossingen

elsewhere to take up jobs, so that our local people can perform.

Mr. Marvin Tjikotorua

Resident, Oukongo-Okomize Village

As the Chief alluded earlier, we really need water in this area, because we are really suffering here, walking long distances to get water from Opuwo and at the borehole at Otjithoko Tjongava, if there is those social responsibility toward the community, water provision should be the first priority.

Mr. Mbinge Ueizuva

Resident, Oukongo-Okomize Village

Since this project is on electricity, I think we should also get electricity in our houses, because what is the point of having electricity infrastructure in the area but we do not have access to electricity.

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

We will liaise with NamPower and NORED to ensure that the village is electrified as a priority.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

When this project commences, you should also give small contracts to our local people and training, most of our people didn’t go school but they are willing to learn and work.

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

We are not going to work in isolation, the community will be part of this project. Definitely we will out-source some of the jobs to local SME and will obviously provide on the job training.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

We will prepare our community needs and present the document to you, and if this project isapproved, please do come to us well in advance so that we can have a meeting, we do not want

Mr. Willy Matsi, Otjongava Energy (Pty) Ltd

As usual, I will definitely come and brief you on the progress, and if the project is approved will definitely have an inception meeting with the community.

to see people already on site without being informed.

Mr. Ndili Lukas Oukongo-Okomize Village, Chief

Thank you, so much and let’s hope this time, you are not going to take too long, we have been waiting for too many years, we really need this project in the area.

The meeting adjourned at 13h30
