Jesus addresses us with comforting words today: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Let those words wash over us and all the responsibilities we have, all the stresses we’re under, and all the failures that
haunt us. “My yoke is easy,” Jesus assures us, “my burden light.” As we gather together on this holiday weekend, let us rejoice in the freedom Jesus offers us from our heavy burdens.

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parish Family, "Come to me......and I will give you rest."
We live in a stress-ridden, production-driven, fast-paced workaholic society. Rest is sometimes looked upon in a negative way. Some say, time is money and therefore to rest is to waste time, and to waste time is to lose money. But yet, incorporated in our divinely fashioned bodies is a time for rest into each 24 hour period. Even in our fast paced life, rest is an important element, a valuable asset not to be ignored nor be taken for granted. No wonder Jesus extends that invitation to His disciples. He knows its importance in daily living.
But what does He really mean with that invitation? Is it just to pause and relax from all the activities we load ourselves with? I believe it's more than that. Jesus invites His own to find rest in Him! It is a holy rest. It's to take stock of ourselves and see where we are in our relationships- with God and with one another! The rest that Jesus offers to us allows values to be re-thought, priorities to be set and attitudes to be adjusted. It enables us to regroup and re-center ourselves to Him. When He invites His followers to come to Him and rest, Jesus knew that rest is an integral aspect of every believer‘s faith response to God, who Himself rested on the 7th day of the world's creation.
Peace,
Fr Dwight

IGNITE UPDATE
$1,081,595 from 254 families.
Prayer in the Time of Coronavirus
Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like your disciples on the storm tossed seas, unsettled by what lies ahead. We turn to You, our Healer and Guide, to still our hearts in our time of need and hear our prayer:
Heal those who are sick with the coronavirus and protect the elderly and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who tend to our health and wisdom to researchers who work toward a cure.
Open our eyes and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey, that we may look beyond our immediate needs to care for others who need help.
Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise decisions for the welfare of all the people they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who have died from the virus.
May Mary, Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in the storms of our lives, Intercede to her Son, that we may find healing and a prompt end to this illness.
Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us.
Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us.
An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus,
I believe that you are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated
from You. Amen.

2019 SVDP Annual Report to the Parish
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul ministry at St. Michael’s assists those in need in the Lake Jackson, Clute and Richwood areas. We provide food, financial assistance, counseling, spiritual and emotional comfort. The chart below summarizes the work our Conference performed in 2019.
Jesus said ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Notes on columns: “Groceries # Bags” includes food during the year and Thanksgiving baskets provided to over 60 families in November. “Groceries / Food Cards” includes cost of food throughout the year to supplement donations to the pantry, the cost of the
Thanksgiving baskets and the food cards distributed with them. “Utilities” includes water, power, and natural gas. “Other” includes all other expenses not fitting the previous categories: (gas cards, furniture, appliances, etc.)
Funding for our work comes from individual donations throughout the year, fundraisers conducted by other St. Michael’s ministries and from our annual special collection. Without the generous financial contributions from our parishioners, we would not be able to continue this ministry. Thank you for allowing us to be Christ’s “hands and feet” for our neighbors in need.
If you would like additional information on how to assist or become part of the SVDP ministry, please contact the church office at 297-3041
